It's been one month since my last day at Harmons Grocery. 💚 Here are a few things I gained: - an appreciation for retail employees (especially around the holidays) - an expansion of my palate (flavor combos my tongue had never tasted) - a preference for premium ingredients (I'm looking at you, expensive olive oil) - a refining of my culinary skills (so I can teach others the same) - a variety of presenting experiences (from pre-schoolers to med students) - a need for variety in my work (no two days were the same) - a detailed eye for nutrition fact panels (try reviewing 318 breakfast cereals) - a demystification of new trendy grocery products (the ingredient list tells all) - a distaste for arbitrary front of package claims and labeling (IYKYK) - a love of the in-store experience (from the lighting to the employees) - a disappointment shopping anywhere else! What a life-changing 5 years I had with Harmons! There were many days that were just flat out FUN. On to the next adventure! I can't wait to share what I'm transitioning into next. It was so fun having my husband, parents, and in-laws attend one of my last classes (pictured).

Been thinking about @Twinkies lately. 🤔 In the grand tapestry of snack food epics, the Twinkie shines like a golden, cream-filled beacon of endurance that Ernest Shackleton would be proud of. Born in 1930, this iconic delight has sailed through the Great Depression, two World Wars, and not one, but two corporate bankruptcies. 2004- Interstate Bakeries Corporation (IBC), owners of Hostess Brands filed for Chapter 11. 2011 - Hostess Brands filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy yet again....... Yet, like a delicious phoenix, the Twinkie always makes a triumphant return. 🐦🔥 Apollo Global Management, Inc. purchased the business for $410 million in 2012. in 2016 Apollo Global Management, Inc. took Hostess Brands public via a SPAC at a market cap of $2.4B (not bad for a 3 year hold) Later last year, The J.M. Smucker Co. purchased Hostess Brands for $5.6B. In a world obsessed with health trends like keto, Atkins, and low-sugar diets, the Twinkie's continued existence is a delightful anomaly. It's the snack that laughs in the face of dietary trends, proving that sometimes, what we yearn for is a dash of nostalgia and the simple pleasure of a cream-filled cake. 🍰❤️ Here's to the Twinkie and Apollo Global Management, Inc. Friday night culinary adventures (this is one of my unwind activities) On the end of an extremely busy week and not wanting to think too much about dinner, I chose to pull a lamb rib rack from our freezer (we bought a whole lamb from a local farmer before the layoff... highly recommend these bulk buys!), dressed it up with Mediterranean spices, and put it in the slow cooker. I had plans to go to CrossFit (24.1 for this year's CrossFit games... don't ask... I did get myself scored but I'm not that good), and after a boost of mental energy from multiple dumbbell snatches and lateral burpees over dumbbells and needing a side accompanist to what I had put in the crockpot decided to give a go at making homemade hummus for the first time. I found a recipe, and went to making this smooth concoction from scratch last night, and it showed up the delicious lamb ribs (fall off the bones) from the crockpot. It was right up there with the best hummus's I've gotten from delis and restaurants (such as Phoenicia in Houston, Ash' Kara in Denver, and Rumi's Kitchen in Atlanta). It was a great way to unwind... and gave me a few #MOps thoughts. 😎 When we get "heads down" on our projects and flipping from work to meeting to meeting, etc... our mental energy naturally goes down. Find ways to mix it up and move. These activities (you don't have to do snatches and burpee jump-overs to get this... a walk will do) help recharge us and boost our creativity. It will also help in our creative #MOps tasks as well. 😍 The choice of materials matters. We keep pure olive oil and bulk organic chickpeas on stock, and using ingredients with this quality level made a difference. You can taste the difference between grocery hummus and homemade just from the ingredient choices. The same applies to #MarTech... if you want good results, you need to invest in quality technology and people who can execute on the technical and process side of your strategy to get the results you want. 😶 Order of operations matters. One of the key pieces of the recipe was the order in which the ingredients in the hummus was mixed, which made a huge difference in the level of creaminess and consistency in the end product. Your #RevenueOperations works the same way. You need to think about the order by which data and process flows through your people/technology system to get the measurable results you need. You can't just "throw the ingredients together and hit 'blend'" and get optimal results. ------ I hope you have a great weekend. No SS this week.
