This is an unfortunate reminder that even in our mainstream media, gender differences still exist when reporting child sexual assault. Both of these boys were below the age of consent. Rebecca Joynes was in a position if power over them as a teacher, and deliberately groomed them. She bought them gifts and sent them messages. These boys were not able to consent. Rebecca Joynes did not ‘have sex’ with these boys. She raped them. It is important to think about how this headline and article might have been phrased if the genders were switched around. Painting boys as consenting partners in sexual assaults and grooming relationships only furthers the idea that boys cannot be victims. This is nonsense. Boys can just as much be victims of grooming and sexual assault as girls. The language that we as professionals use to discuss these matters is paramount, because it can create and break down the barriers to disclosing abuse, being believed, and appropriate sentencing. This updated map delineates the legislative risks concerning laws aimed at transgender adults in the United States. States like Florida have eliminated 80% of all trans adult care, adults can be thrown in jail for using the bathroom of their gender identity, and trans people with correct gender markers on their drivers licenses can be charged with fraud. Multiple states have passed laws ending all legal recognition for trans people. As such, adult risk levels for trans people are now tracked on its own map. The Crown Prosecution Service's latest survey of over 3000 UK adults on rape beliefs has just been published. Here are a selection of results specifically looking at participants aged 18-24 years old: ⚪ Only 53% believed it can still be rape if the victim doesn’t resist or fight back.  ⚫ Only 43% recognised victims may not immediately report to the police.  Only 42% recognised consent is not assumed within a relationship or marriage (compared to 87% of participants aged 65 and above). ⚪ 46% recognised if a man has been drinking or taking drugs, he is still responsible if he rapes someone.  ⚫ 28% believed if they met someone from online with the intention to have sex, they could change their mind if they choose (compared to 54% of participants overall). ⚪ 40% recognised that even if no physical force is involved, a person might not be free and able to consent to sex (compared to 62% participants overall). 50.8% of the survey participants were women. The lack of education and understanding of the law is a societal issue but it is especially a young person issue. Young people are leaving school unequipped to deal with adult/romantic relationships and as a result, we have a domestic and sexual abuse epidemic that our already over-saturated Criminal Justice System cannot cope with. How can we expect victims of sexual crime to report offences if they aren't aware of their rights within relationships and sex? How can we expect teenagers to behave responsibly and legally if they aren't taught the law they are supposed to abide by? Especially when many social media 'influencers' and 'stars' do everything they can do indoctrinate and brainwash teenage boys. Excellent read via USA Today on why we need to discuss consent and inappropriate touching with our children. It's a topic that wasn't discussed when many of us were growing up, leaving us vulnerable and scared when we experienced abuse. Change is needed to protect little girls, as statistics now suggest that 1 in 3 young girls will be sexually abused before the age of 18. It's mind-boggling how many women are willing to be bystanders and stay silent on this topic. 47 MILLION adult survivors like me suffer from long-term symptoms as a result of childhood trauma. In an effort to educate and raise awareness among secondary school students about the potential consequences of criminal offenses, I gave a talk on this crucial topic. The session aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of various criminal activities, including triad related offences and sex offences. Students learned about the legal implications, ethical considerations, and potential risks associated with these offenses. Through interactive discussions and real-life case studies, and engaging activities, students gained insights into the impact of criminal activities on individuals, communities, and society as a whole.
