I was thrilled to join our LGBTQ+ employees and allies last week to kick off #PrideMonth at Goldman Sachs!

Last month I shared the court with former #1, eight-time Grand Slam Singles champion and Olympic Gold Medal winner Andre Agassi in his hometown of Las Vegas, NV. Our clients heard from Andre about the highs and lows of his tennis career, how the sport is on the precipice of change and the impact he’s made through his Andre Agassi Foundation for Education. As we discussed the mental and emotional challenge of tennis, Andre described the emotions he felt during the key moments of important matches, including the deafening standing ovations followed by incredible silence towards the end of his memorable 4th set tiebreaker with Pete Sampras at the US Open. It was a memorable day all around, and a big thank you to Andre for joining us.

Our ninth annual Leveraged Finance and Credit Conference brought together over 500 clients, issuers, and investors to hear from leaders across Goldman Sachs on some of the biggest themes impacting this space. It was great to sit down with Dan Dees to talk about how much this business has evolved since I ran the group almost two decades ago—for one, the private credit market has grown enormously and we plan to grow our private credit business even more in the next several years. Leveraged Finance continues to be a critical business for the firm and we are uniquely positioned to deliver for our clients with scale and access across both the syndicated and private credit businesses. It has been fantastic to see the growth of our regional offices throughout the past few years. During my recent visit to Dallas, I had the pleasure of speaking with the esteemed Richard Lofgren at our Texas Townhall. It was an honor to personally congratulate him on his recent confirmation by the Senate to the rank of Rear Admiral. As part of our conversation, we explored his insights on leadership, fostering high-performing teams, and the parallels between the culture at Goldman Sachs and the Navy – our conversation was certainly a highlight of my visit. It was also incredibly rewarding to connect with our dedicated clients based in Texas who have seen our presence expand in the area. As the Goldman Sachs Private Wealth Management business continues to flourish with the establishment of our offices in Austin, Houston, and Dallas, I firmly believe this expansion will foster opportunities within the region and propel us toward even greater success.

Hudson Yards was the biggest commercial development in New York since the construction of Rockefeller Center back in the 1930s. Grateful to kick off 2024 in Japan! Japan is an incredibly important business for us and there’s a lot of optimism about the opportunity set here – playing both global and local is key as we continue to move forward in the year. During my time in Tokyo, I got a chance to sit down with Shinichi Yokote for a fireside chat and lay out for our Japanese colleagues some of the key execution priorities that will drive our firm in the year ahead.   I was also thankful for the opportunity to connect with our newly formed Japan Leadership Group following the announcement of Masa Mochida’s retirement from the firm. Masa had an extraordinary impact on this franchise; we thank him for his unwavering dedication to the firm and our clients and we wish him the best of luck in the years ahead.   Thank you to the whole Japan team for the warm welcome—grateful to spend meaningful time with this group, especially amidst a challenging start to the year for the people of Japan.
