My thoughts on ACSP2023 #acsp2023 # I did love the venue city Chicago. I love Miami, but nothing compares when a planning conference is organized in a city that is studied in planning history multiple times. It matters to me. Not sure if Miami is less expensive as it never felt like it. The venue hotel had a beautiful lobby for interactions however way finding to session rooms was significantly difficult experience. Hard to switch sessions when it involved transitioning between two floors. Took forever to get elevators to move up and down. # Too many concurrent sessions, as such hard to follow through. Although sessions were organized under tracks, and topics placed in a sequence yet some sessions were well sequenced some not so well. Certain presentations did not relate to each other (even preorganized ones). I felt so. # Not all discussants were equal, and varied a lot in how they conducted the session. Some discussants did a great job by asking the participants to face the audience, answer some specific as well as over arching questions. Some left feed back on research in motion presentations and detailed notes on full paper. Some discussants were reluctant to do any of those or engage in any form of compelling discussion. Audience played a great role where discussants failed to engage. # Poster presentation hall was grand, there were several good posters. The quality and presentation of posters getting better each year (I love reading posters). However, I missed some features of vitual posters where there was a brief presentation by author for each posters uploaded in the app. I feel that made posters more readable/ understandable in a short amount of time, even when I did not have a chance to talk to the author.

A couple months ago there was a bit of a stir from challenging the CME/CPD community to think twice about predatory meetings. For those who who joined the original discussion, here is another great example of how the motivations of some meeting organizers are wholly misaligned with the attendees and the profession at large. Compare these price points to the meetings run by and for the CME/CPD professionals. Then....think about what the various the pricing segments/tiers say about the meeting's motivations and models.
