Here's my recipe for a great executive committee team offsite: 🔸 Mix equal parts strategy and team building. 🔸 Add a dash of fun, like bowling. 🔸 Top it off with a generous serving of employee talent development discussion. This week, I have the pleasure of hosting Melinta Therapeutics annual executive committee offsite in Asbury Park. It's a time for our leadership team to come together to operationalize our strategy, review our performance and strengthen our bond as a team. We have dedicated three days to a balanced mix of operationalizing our strategic plan, team-building activities, and fun moments such as bowling. I recognize that asking our leaders to spend time away from their families is no small request, but this amazing team wholeheartedly embraces this opportunity each year. One of the areas of focus from our offsite is the importance of understanding the developmental needs of your teams. Our company culture is built on the belief that continuous growth and improvement are essential for success. I am proud to say that at Melinta, we value personal and professional growth for everyone, from our entry-level employees to our executive team. We believe that investing in our people is the key to driving innovation and achieving success. I am confident that our team will leave feeling energized, motivated, and united in our goals for the upcoming year. Our offsite is not just a time to plan for the future, but it's also a time to strengthen relationships and create memories that will last long after we return to the office. As we continue to grow and evolve as a company, I am excited to see how we will continue to drive forward towards even greater success. On February 8, 2024, I had the privilege and pleasure of facilitating a session for my #Bayercropscience colleague, Tracy Best, with Mathias Labs, a colleague who is also a member of the #Bayer Mindful Matters Facilitators Network (MMFN). At Tracy's request, we facilitated a session on Team Mission and Vision with her team: Alicia Braker, John Robert Chovanec, Ivana McNeal, Cristina Porciuncula Krzyzaniak, and Milica Vogt. In our session, we discussed the concept of Team Vision and Mission Statements. We also reviewed and discussed examples from some well-known entities. For those of you who are not familiar with the concept of a team #visionstatement, it is a short sentence that defines where you want to go and is designed to be an idea that inspires and connects the people in the team. For me, an example from my beloved Canadiens de Montréal readily comes to mind. "To you from failing hands we throw the torch; be yours to hold it high." To create a team vision statement, it is necessary to consider what you want your future to look like? What do you want to be recognized for some day? A crystal-clear vision will help you as you make difficult strategic and operational decisions. As for #team #mission, to create one, it is necessary to describe what your team does, who you are doing it for, and why you do what you do. A good team mission will facilitate action by clarifying decision-making, roles, and goals and enhancing partnership and trust. This is how happy people at Boehringer Ingelheim look like 😊.   Last week, Alexandra Breiner and I had the honor to run a major global event for the largest business unit of Boehringer Ingelheim, Humanpharma: Intent Day ✨. Under the motto of “United by Intent - powered by you”, we organized 4 global virtual sessions that had been prepared by colleagues, for colleagues. Intent Day truly travelled around the globe as there were rebroadcasts for the Asian/Pacific region as well as for the Americas. In addition, our colleagues in the US, China, Japan and Germany organized local sessions. What an amazing journey 🚀!   All session teams had signed up voluntarily and went above and beyond their regular day jobs. Their commitment truly role-modelled our 5 core behaviors: taking accountability, making timely decisions, learning new things, constructively challenging each other, and listening to our patients. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed 🙏🌺!   Personally, I had three key learnings from Intent Day:   ➡ It came out clearly throughout the sessions that we are all human beings first and foremost, before being patients, supervisors, employees, or colleagues 👩👧👧. Let's treat each other with respect, listen carefully, and always assume good intentions.   ➡ In times of busyness and pressure, it is crucial to reflect on why and what we want to change moving forward. What brought us here may not be beneficial for our future. Investing time in self-reflection can lead to meaningful growth and progress.   ➡ Embracing new ways of working can be enjoyable and fulfilling 💪🔥!
