Dutch company develops electrolyser that produces hydrogen at up to 350 bar | NEWES Hydrogen has developed and patented an alkaline electrolyser capable of producing green hydrogen at elevated pressure, enabling immediate access to hydrogen at pressures of up to 350 bar, without the need for a compressor or an external gas drying installation. The electrolyser is composed of ~1 MW modules, which can be connected in series for a total capacity of approximately 25 MW.   Green hydrogen is set to play a vital role as a high-pressure energy carrier for various applications, including storage (up to 350 bar, or even 700 bar depending on the type), pipeline transport (ranging from 30 to 70 bar), and conversion to ammonia or methanol (typically around 150 bar).   NEWES Hydrogen's electrolysis technology produces hydrogen directly at the required pressure for these applications, eliminating the need for compressor installations.   Currently, in collaboration with partners, the company is developing a 1 MW at 350 bar demonstration installation to showcase the technology on an industrial scale. The installation is expected to be operational by mid-2024.

A new study recently detailed a process in which ammonia is broken down into nitrogen & hydrogen by a catalyst, generating protons that are transferred across a proton-conducting membrane. Based on Le Chatelier's principle, this process produces more hydrogen by removing it from the reaction. What’s exciting? This hydrogen can be used to power fuel cells, providing clean electricity as long as fuel is available. It effectively resolves major challenges & costs associated with delivering hydrogen by harnessing the widespread ammonia distribution system predominantly used for fertilizer. Focusing on steps needed for safety of upscaled TW hydrogen electolyzer plants

We know that we can't get to #netzero without #hydrogen, but how are we going to transport it? 🚢 #Ammonia could be the answer. Ammonia e-Cracking With strong initial results, Syzygy has the data points needed to enter the market. These results also show a strong path forward to continue achieving even greater efficiency and performance in future reactor cell designs. Syzygy is establishing a strong efficiency baseline at the reactor cell level and adding the energy required for balance of plant equipment and processes to determine overall system efficiencies. Including the energy required for an entire e-ammonia cracking plant, test results show that Syzygy technology should be able to produce hydrogen using only 12 kWh/kg in 2025. In 2026, the product roadmap calls for reducing that further to just 10 kWh/kg, further improving efficiency and operating costs.
