🎪 5% VAT for Festivals 🎪 AIF UK are asking the UK Government to lower VAT on music festival ticket sales from 20% to 5% for a temporary period of three years. As of last week, 21 UK festivals have announced having to postpone, cancel, or completely close this year. AIF are predicting that the UK may lose over 100 festivals in 2024 due to rising costs. We have witnessed the damage that the pandemic, increasing supply chain costs, Brexit, and the energy crisis have caused to the once thriving UK festival scene. The Department of Justice has claimed Live Nation’s practices have purposely kept out competitors, leading to ticket price increases and worse service. These practices have led to Attorney General Merrick Garland pushing the courts to break up the company. Live Nation has discredited these claims, saying they are “absurd” and ignoring other factors leading to rising ticket prices. Live Nation works with its subsidiary Ticketmaster to hold concerts, sell tickets, and own venues. It owns 250 venues in the United States and manages 60% of concert promotions. It also controls 80% of ticket sales. Live Nation controls most of the live music industry, and the United States is working to break up the company to allow better ticket prices and availability for consumers. #TheSocialTalks #LiveNation #Ticketmaster #MusicIndustry

Calls for a £1 ticket levy on stadiums and arenas have been given the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee’s seal of approval. 📄 Now is the time for industry to find consensus on delivering a voluntary levy, ensuring its parameters and delivery are set by industry experts. If not, our political parties must include a commitment to introducing a statutory scheme by September 2024 in their General Election manifestos.
