I hear this comparison ALLLLL the time. Whether it is in a coaching session, discovery call, or workshop Q&A people tend to compare themselves to others who are several chapters ahead. While it's beneficial to have long-term goals, we have to start at step 1 in order to get to step 10. A baby has to roll before they sit up, they have to sit up before they crawl, and they have to crawl before they walk - these steps give them the foundation they need to run! I love to use the analogy of a house. The stronger your foundation is, the easier it is to build a bigger house. You wouldn’t start to build a house on a wet foundation, would you? Of course not! The reality is, everyone has to start somewhere! That "somewhere" may be different for everyone depending on your past experience and current brand, business, and community footprint. For example, If you want to have an engaged online community that generates warm leads, you first have to know where your target audience is online, then commit to a content marketing and posting schedule that shares value, connects and builds trust. Clarity on what action is needed to get to the end goal is often where people get lost. The best thing we can do is get clear on what steps are needed to get from chapter 1 to chapter 2 and so on!
