Lately I've been thinking a lot about full product experiences. I do not work in personal care products. However, I have been impressed by Native's scented seasonal products. You can now buy bath wash that smells like Girl Scout Cookies. This might sound aversive to some, but for those who are trying to eat fewer sugary treats, I wonder how well this works to reduce appetite for sweet things. Research has demonstrated that prolonged exposure for indulgent aromas reduces consumption (purchase of) indulgent food in a cafeteria and increased consumption of healthy foods. Interestingly, it was only the prolonged aroma exposure that had this result. A brief exposure primed the purchase of indulgent foods. Thus, will this (or has this) become a strategy for dieters to enjoy indulgent foods and reduce cravings? If I were working on Native Products, I would certainly be attempted to collect data on the longitudinal effects of these products as a dietary aid.
