Went against the common advice to avoid mixing business with friendship, and now I can't imagine building a startup without my friends. Most of us have known each other since high school, and working together hasn’t impacted our friendships. If anything, it’s brought us closer. I love to fail. We failed at fundraising. We went 0/12 on fundraising meetings after Y Combinator and almost ran out of money. We had only 2 weeks of runway. Instead of giving up, we doubled down and were able to raise a $14M seed round from Andreessen letting us continue learning and growing the business. We failed at expanding Locale nationwide. We realized the fixed costs and retention didn’t scale so we pivoted and decided to focus solely to the Bay Area again. Now we’ve slowly grown a community of happy customers. I don’t do things with the intent to fail, but I embrace failure because it's always the beginning of growth.

After my last post, we delivered 4 free meals to dozens of people affected by recent layoffs in the Bay Area. Supporting our local community has always been a priority since Chris and I founded Locale. We wish these weren’t the circumstances but we’re grateful to have something to offer.
