It opens its mouth …..quack. 🦆 Confused, it looks around not sure why you didn’t turn in its direction. The dog tries again……moooo. 🐄 Still no reaction. Only on the third time does the dog open its mouth and a glorious bark sounds through the room. 🐩 Instantly the owner turns around because they know the sound, who it is and that it can be trusted, order is restored. 📣 Strategically developed Sonic Branding that is used consistently is the key to making sure your customers always recognise who you are, what you stand for and that you can be trusted. One of the most famous if not downright weird demands that a rock band ever made was not what you think. Van Halen’s 1982 Diver Down World Tour was epic in scale. The band was riding a popularity wave that allowed them to sell out massive stadiums. The problem with such a massive tour was that the details mattered. The stage setup alone was complicated and required a specific set of engineering considerations that, if not followed, could lead to disaster. So the band decided to test each venue by providing specific, easily verifiable demands, within their 53 page typewritten rider. The most famous one, under the Munchies section, made it into the cultural lexicon well before anyone knew about memes: 🍬 M&M's (WARNING: ABSOLUTELY NO BROWN ONES). No brown M&M’s. This seems like the most arrogant rock star thing to do but it had its purpose. If the band found brown M&M’s in their dressing room, then what else had the venue missed. The details matter and while we sometimes want to rush something out the door, or skip important, sometimes boring steps, attention to detail is how we gain trust with our customers as we market to them. Other notable items were: 🐟 Herring in sour cream 🍺 Four (4) cases of "Schlitz Malt Liquor beer (16 ounce cans) 🍷 Eight (8) bottles of wine and liquor. [imagine “Graduation” by Vitamin C is playing probably] A lot has been coming out about Foxtrot and Dom's Kitchen & Market the past few days. It's disappointing. It's personally frustrating. But equally en masse, seeing the outpour of support and praise on behalf of my teammates in the Creative Department has been endearing. I'm honored to have been a part of it, and that's really all I want to focus on. Because, to me, after its front-line workers, a brand's most potent asset is its story. And our enduring story was my favorite part of Foxtrot, even as it warped and we fought back. So, I want to shoutout the people who guided me and told a stellar story over the past few years: Jasen Emamian: A erudite social manager, content machine, and outspoken voice in the room. The rare social hire who also delivers. Colleen Griffiths: A wholly original one-person team whose talent is matched by their speed. PS this is the kindest human. Nicole Mizgalski: An extremely informed and worthwhile creative, mentor, and thought leader. When she speaks you better f***in’ listen. This is invaluable perspective.  Rob Schellenberg: Surely a future leader in unlocking this “third coast” as the most inspired hub for creative cool things. Makes designing and sifting through the rubble to find your genius look easy.  Garrett Sweet: An agile and masterful photographer; you’ll be lucky to look at his gallery and see things the way he does. I’d say book him now but he’s probably already too cool for you. and Stephanie Klaers + Kelsie de la Ossa: The only people who could keep you wrangled long enough to bottle all your genius, and patient enough to bring your vision into the material world. We made stuff. We threw parties. We launched wines and snacks. A concert here. A DJ set there. We created so many f***ing emails, posters, menus, intros, booklets, signs, product descriptions, the coolest merch. We were as hungry as the business we worked for. And still are! So connect with these people. Foxtrot and Dom’s are done, but the talent of this team and all it's contribtuors will be recognized wherever they go next.

Bringing to life those details that hit home 🎯 When you know that your product creates a moment, which could be turned into a campaign or standalone activation. How often do we see brands do something with this? Whilst Cheetos might have more cultural relevance in the States, I can still appreciate the thought process behind this. Cheesy Cheeto fingers are clearly portrayed on a giant hand statue- brilliant idea. Creating a pattern interrupt, photogenic moment and more. Recently, a friend sought a hairstylist, and I had the perfect recommendation. Later, another person asked about a boxing coach, and I swiftly provided a suggestion. Towards the day's end, someone needed a baker, and although I bake myself and I'm ambitious, but, 200 cupcakes by next week wouldn't be manageable for my baking hobby and lifestyle. ;) No matter if in life or career, I equally find joy in spreading the word, just in case you're seeking without asking. It's the perfect time to arrange your summer promo campaign. How could be, when it's still so cold outside? It's never too early! Let me tell you some secrets. There might be some differences between big corporation teams and startups, but everything goes in the same direction. All the plans start at least six months in advance. Sometimes even more. The production team needs a couple of months to stock ingredients and turn the machine to produce. You need enough stock to be at the warehouse or at least on its way. Then there is a ton of marketing materials to be created and sent to the wholesalers, partners and clients. Also to schedule your online campaigns. Yes, you need content for it. The sales team takes a month to spread their magic around. To be on the shelf at the right time and reach your customer with the right message. Get ahead of the competition. Save some stress, plan early, execute on time, and be ready to hit! Ok, here are some ways my family works to limit spending without cutting into our enjoyment while visiting Disneyland. Some trivia follows if you want to test your skill and memory! Pre-order food to be delivered to your hotel room. Check for sales and discounts associated with ordering from grocery stores. (We have a kitchen available to us, so hunting for non-refrigerated foods could help) How do we use food: Breakfasts are before park hours. Foods like string cheese, yogurts, pb&j sandwiches, bars and fruit make up a majority of our in-park day (You can also eat while waiting in line). Adult and kid beverages for later (that alone saves you about $1,000) - Make sure that if you have these delivered that you are there to sign for them as hotel staff cannot). We choose a place in the parks for dinner and look for any published discounts that may help. We also pack down certain food items that we got from Costco. The space created by eating that food allows for our souvenirs to come back comfortably. And speaking of souvenirs: Set spending limits. We choose a souvenir theme for the year that allows us to focus on finding specific items or pin-trading or other fun ways to explore the areas. It also cuts down on spontaneous purchases because we have our set/budgeted amount in our minds as we consider whether we'll get the item we're currently looking at! Another piece is having the kids pay a percentage of the cost, which also adds some consideration to the tchotchke in hand. Alright, most of you are probably TLDR at this point.
