I have noticed that the tech layoff trend was not left in 2023… if you have been laid off in 2024, I see you—I've been there too! I've experienced all the emotions you're likely feeling now: shock, anger, fear, and more. I've written and rewritten my resume, spent hours scouring LinkedIn, and applied for numerous jobs, but the most impactful thing I've done in these three months is NETWORK. Since I was laid off, over 50 generous individuals have opened their calendars to me, making me feel validated and supported during this uncertain time. Sharing my story with each of them allowed me to refine my elevator pitch, clarify what I'm seeking in my next opportunity, and connect with some truly amazing humans. YES!! Networkers need to make a list of companies who hire people with their skills, ask the person they ae meeting with if they know anyone in those companies, ask if they can think of other companies they should be looking at, ask if they can think of other positions where their skills might apply. Networking has so many benefits when approached in the right way! I met people who were also looking and we started sharing news about companies and openings.

Layoffs are definitely still in the works, but your instincts are spot on -- networking and supporting each other are the way to get to the other side. We have job search cohorts in the CxXchange community -- feel free to join or share with others.
