Managing diverse audiences
I've had the privilege of engaging with varying audiences and sharing insights at various events and workshops.
Last week was particularly eventful for us at COMB, as we were honored to participate in three distinct events. Each of these events catered to unique objectives and brought together a wide array of individuals.
Reflecting on what has consistently contributed to successful presentations, I've found the following approaches to be invaluable:
1. Early Engagement and Clarity: Collaborating closely with organizers from the outset has proven pivotal. Gaining a deep understanding of the audience and the organizers' intended outcomes has allowed me to tailor my presentations effectively.
2. Event Flow and Cohesion: Especially when sharing the stage with other presenters, it's crucial to have a clear grasp of the event's structure. This ensures a seamless flow and enhances the overall coherence of the insights shared.
3. Emotional Resonance: In instances of multi-presenter events, gauging the emotional tone of the room is essential. Shifting the emotional context when necessary can greatly enhance the message's impact and resonance.
4. Contextual Clarity: Beyond delivering content, imparting context has proven pivotal. This empowers the audience to grasp the significance of the information and ensures a balanced blend of content and context.
5. Time Management: Staying within the allocated time frame is a mark of respect for the audience and fellow presenters. While allowing some flexibility for a deeper dive into crucial points, I aim to maintain a seamless pace.
I'm curious to learn from you as well. What strategies have you found effective in your presentations? I would love to hear from you.
I extend our heartfelt gratitude to the The American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (AmCham Singapore) Dr. Hsien-Hsien Lei Crystal Kim who extended invitations for me to share. The opportunity to connect with exceptional leaders at the Women Symposium was truly enriching.
Additionally, co-conducting the MasterClass with the Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI) Marilyn Eng provided a platform to address staff retention challenges faced by fellow SMEs.
Lastly, the workshop on Workplace Social Awareness, organized in partnership with LinkedIn APAC and supported by Frank Koo 高國堂 Koo 高國堂, Sharan Bhinder, Lanny Wijaya and Devyani Dutt, centered around improving Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging in the workplace—truly uplifting.
And none of these can be achieved without my amazing team KahKeh Ho Leon Lim. Thank you!
