Proud to share that we're investing US$2 billion into building our first Google data center and Google Cloud region in #Malaysia in Greater Kuala Lumpur, in close collaboration with the GOVERNMENT OF MALAYSIA. When operational, they are estimated to support more than US$3.2 billion in contributions to Malaysia’s GDP and 26,500 jobs by 2030. Data centers are the engines behind the digital services that help people and businesses thrive. In Malaysia and across the Asia Pacific region, we continue to see growing use of popular digital services like Search, Maps, Workspace, and YouTube. Driven by organizations' desire to innovate responsibly and differentiate using our generative AI platform and developer tools, we are also seeing unprecedented demand for Google Cloud services. Continued investment in technical infrastructure in Malaysia will therefore play a critical role in supporting our fast-growing Google Cloud business and our customers' #AI innovations in this part of the world. Apart from delivering state-of-the-art digital infrastructure, we will work with the Government of Malaysia to help businesses in agriculture and manufacturing harness AI for productivity gains and to raise the living standards of workers in these sectors. We are also invested in partnering with the government to design AI solutions that address challenges associated with healthcare, education, flood management, and the country's energy transition. Malaysia & Indonesia Emerge as Prime Beneficiaries in ASEAN Amid Data Center Boom Summary: Malaysia and Indonesia are becoming key beneficiaries in ASEAN due to the rising global demand for data centers amid the proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI), according to research by CGS-International. Data center capacity in ASEAN is projected to increase more than fourfold from 1,677 megawatts (MW) in Q1 2024 to 7,589 MW by 2028, driven by the region's growing data usage, AI training demands, and constraints in primary markets like Singapore. Malaysia: Fastest-Growing Player Malaysia is poised to benefit the most from accelerating data center investments due to its strategic advantages, including superior infrastructure, favorable government policies, and proximity to Singapore. The state of Johor has become a significant data center hub, ranking as the 7th largest in Asia as of Q1 2024. Government initiatives like the Green Lane Pathway and support from agencies like MIDA and MDEC are streamlining the establishment and expansion of data centers. Indonesia: Steady Growth and Strategic Initiatives Indonesia's data center capacity is expected to rise from 514 MW in 2023 to 1.41 GW by 2029, driven by the country's digital transformation, cloud computing, IoT adoption, and AI usage. The "Making Indonesia 4.0" strategy provides tax incentives and relaxes foreign ownership restrictions to attract investments. Despite challenges such as power infrastructure development, regulatory inefficiencies, natural disaster risks, and skilled labor shortages, significant investments by global tech giants and local partnerships are fueling growth. Challenges and Opportunities While both countries are experiencing rapid growth, they face challenges in ensuring stable power supplies, developing green data centers, improving regulatory frameworks, and enhancing infrastructure. This is s far the biggest investment in a data centre in Malaysia and, besides becoming a driver for economic growth and job-opportunities (26,500 jobs will benefit from this), the fact that a global brand and industry giant such as Google has chosen Malaysia for its next data centre, will further push others to follow! NEWS ASIA Malaysia is emerging as a data center powerhouse amid booming demand from AI Malaysia is rapidly becoming a data center hub in Southeast Asia, with billions in investments from tech giants like Google, Nvidia, and Microsoft, particularly in Johor Bahru. This city, once with minimal data center presence, is set to surpass Singapore in data center capacity. Malaysia's rise is fueled by the global surge in cloud computing and AI demand, favorable policies, and lower costs for space and energy. However, concerns over resource strain, especially on energy and water supplies, are prompting local authorities to enforce stricter green energy guidelines. Despite Singapore's efforts to expand its green data centers, Malaysia's advantages make it a key emerging market in the region.

It was a privilege to meet with His Excellency the Prime Minister of Thailand and his esteemed delegation at the ASEAN summit this week. Our conversations were highly engaging, setting the stage for our exciting new digital infrastructure developments in Thailand. We're thrilled the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) recently approved our investment application for a new NEXTDC hyperscale data centre in Bangkok. This marks another significant step in our expansion efforts in Southeast Asia and underscores our commitment to delivering world class Tier IV data center solutions across the region. Thailand's impressive 43% increase in investment applications for 2023, totaling USD 24 billion, speaks volumes about the country's attractiveness to foreign investors, particularly in sectors like ours. The BOI's approval of our investment application further demonstrates Thailand's embrace of technological progress and innovation. The Prime Minister's hands-on leadership style reflects Thailand's proactive approach to attracting foreign investment, especially in technology. His efforts have enhanced investor confidence in Thailand as a premier destination for digital infrastructure investments. While there's much work ahead, securing approval for foreign direct investment allows us to proceed with our planning for the new data center in Bangkok.
