On March 4, I'll join the ~20pp Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on the #SDG13 (#climateaction) review, a key process toward the 2024 High-Level Political Forum #HLPF on Sustainable Development convened by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (#UNDESA ) and UNFCCC Climate Change secretariat. Other speakers hail from Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) SEI — Stockholm Environment Institute Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) Green Climate Fund Asian Development Bank (ADB) Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Government of Brazil International Maritime Organization International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) UNICEF Egyptian Ministry of Environment International Resource Panel (IRP) and more. I'm intrigued by the process and deeply appreciative of the invitation! In particular we will explore the means of implementation of the SDG13 through a co-creation process to go beyond siloed approaches to integrated solutions. Addressing #climatechange and taking #climateaction is complex by nature (yes, yes, pun intended). We're navigating dynamic and overlapping systems, which require many levels of coordination and investment in the short and long terms. The more we can imbue a spirit of integration and harness #alliances in our approach, the more we can all advance in the right direction on our #climatejourneys and with enough #climateambition. 🌍🔌 Transatlantic Climate Bridge Conference: Fostering Subnational Leadership for Climate and Energy 🌍🔌 The Transatlantic Climate Bridge Conference, held from June 5 to June 13, witnessed the active participation by Peter Love, Centre for Community Energy Transformation (CCET) Board Chair, as an expert panel member. The conference aimed to strengthen the climate and energy alliance among Germany, the United States, and Canada, fostering discussions and collaboration at the national and local levels. Notable figures like Ambassador Nina Hachigian, US Special Representative for City and State Diplomacy, delivered keynote addresses, emphasizing the significance of national leaders facilitating local-level actions. During a panel discussion titled "Leading the Pack – How Subnational Policy Pioneers are Driving the Energy Transition," Peter Love showcased Peel Region's vision, particularly Brampton's Energy transition plans. The vision includes establishing the Centre for Community Energy Transformation as a "community incubator" organization to drive deep energy retrofits, implement district energy projects, and promote energy retrofitting in institutional, commercial, and industrial buildings, contributing to lower carbon alternatives and enhancing local resiliency. The conference exemplified inspiring subnational leadership and provided valuable insights into redefining energy systems for a sustainable future. Sign up for our next Learning Call on Luxembourg’s Climate Assembly and its follow-up! 📅 Thursday, September 21, 2023  ⏰ 15:00-16:30 CET    The Klima-Biergerrot (KBR) – the Luxembourg climate citizens’ assembly – was commissioned in 2022 with the explicit intention of influencing the revision of the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), a draft of which has recently been submitted by the government to the European Commission. KNOCA has waited until this point to organise a learning call as this was the first climate assembly that was so clearly tied to a specific policy making process. The KBR itself faced a number of challenges in fulfilling its task but its tight link to the policy process means that the opportunities for direct impact on the NECP are high.  In this learning call, we will bring together Jeff Feller, Chief of Staff for the Prime Minister who is responsible for leading the government response to the KBR, Tom Girardin, one of the organisers of the assembly,  Marion Lorentz-Gottardi, a member of the KBR and Raphaël Kies from the University of Luxembourg who leads the research team that has followed the process.
