Fun and informative, I really enjoyed this rant about the FDA's recent assessment about oral decongestants and phenylephrine. In my humble opinion, I don't believe the FDA is acting on a whim. My guess is, like our team at Silicon Valley Innovations.... the FDA has realized that taking oral medications to effect the tissues of the nasal mucosa might not be the most efficient/effective way to get the job done! As you'll hear in our recent podcast, delivering drugs that act locally is the way to go - for so many reasons. Improved rates of absorption, bioavailability, etc - treat locally to act locally - we're all about that!! Hope you find this episode interesting. (founder's voice) It continues to be disturbing to me that we harm animals when we have all of the tools in this quite advanced technical society to do scientific research using people's data from their own lives. This is part of our grand vision at Enthereal . Rather than harm lab animals, we use the #systemsmedicine frame to listen to people about their lives and their health. Then, we make correlations and apply best practices in symptom management and then move on to underlying behavior change. We don't reject the animal data insights, but we do encourage more study and development of infrastructure to help people in their own specific cases - and let the lab animals be free from intentional harm just to accelerate what usually ends in failure (let's get real): drug development.
