Today's provincial announcement on implementing #fareintegration across our region is a monumental win for our city and the culmination of years of tireless advocacy on behalf of our members.  For far too long, riders have grappled with the frustration of double fares and a disjointed transit system. We've championed the cause for over a decade, and today's announcement is a significant step toward a more seamless transit experience.  Fare integration goes beyond mere convenience; it's a crucial solution for workforce challenges. Eliminating financial barriers to transit will actively encourage people to choose public transport, alleviating #congestion and maximizing the significant #transit infrastructure investments that have been made. As highlighted in our 2023 report, "Erasing the Lines," seamless fare integration is the key to unlocking our region's full potential and addressing our most pressing business challenges. 📢 Big News for Queenslanders! 🚍🚆 The below was announced the end of May this year but as we approach the start of this initiative i thought i would refresh! Starting from August 5th, public transport fares across Queensland will be reduced to just 50 cents! Whether you’re traveling by bus, train, or tram, this initiative by the State Government aims to ease cost-of-living pressures and reduce traffic congestion. Making transit reliable has to be a priority for America. What's clear from this honest account is that there is a clear disconnect between those making the decisions, and those being impacted by them. Most Washington transit board members are made up of elected officials who don't rely on transit themselves! A similar scenario is likely taking place all over the country. Transit services are a lifeline for millions of people who don't own a car and need a way to get around that isn't possible on foot. More public transit agencies are offering low-fare, on-demand shuttle service as a way to connect people to existing transit services and serve far-flung communities. But many transit advocates are wary of the trend.

The consultation period for the planned closure of the UK’s railway ticket offices has been extended until 1 September following campaigns by the RNIB and The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. Ticket offices have traditionally provided a vital service for the independence of visually impaired passengers who may find it difficult - or even impossible - to use self-service machines. These often lack basic accessibility features such as audio instruction and high-contrast text, and even when these features are present, it can still be a significant challenge to find and utilise them without external help. In RNIB and Guide Dogs UK surveys, only 3% of respondents said they could use a ticket vending machine without problems and a massive three-quarters of visually impaired adults fear the proposed changes. This is a huge step backwards for accessibility standards in the UK, and many agree that closing ticket offices should not be an option. There have been increases in transit ridership on all our transit services! Check out the ridership numbers for the first three months of 2024: 🚐 On-demand transit saw 15,181 riders which is up 46 per cent compared to the same period last year. 🚐 There was an average of 88 passenger trips on the on-demand Saturday service, which was introduced in January to support the growing demand for transit and make it more accessible and convenient for riders. 🚐 Within Spruce Grove, there was an average of 121 trips per weekday, and 226 passenger trips within the region including Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Parkland Village and Acheson. 🚐 The commuter service saw 40,668 riders, a 17 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
