When trying to hire a marketing agency one of the important questions to ask is where they fit with your existing team. Some agencies are optimized to work with clients that have no marketing team whatsoever. Some work with clients that have large marketing departments but want an outside perspective. Other agencies (this includes MWI, my agency) work primarily with companies that have a small marketing team, need full marketing support, but don't want to build a full marketing team in-house just yet. Our sweet spot is actually even more niche. We often work with organizations that have many locations (self storage, treatment centers, hospitals, hotels, etc.) and need local marketing for each location, but can't justify hiring a marketing person for each location and aren't ready for the hassle of building a full in-house team at HQ. While a marketing agency may be able to straddle many different types of client needs, if you're looking for the absolute best fit for your company then find the agency that has experience with the way your business is organized. Does your company outsource marketing to an agency? What type of agency relationship has worked best for you?
