So honored to share that I've joined the Board of Directors of Grace Institute, a New York-based non-profit that is transforming the lives of women by empowering them economically and professionally. Grace is a woman’s workforce development organization that provides free education for unemployed or underemployed women. The women are trained in really practical workplace skills, equipping them with what it takes to be hired into high-calibre, prestigious jobs with benefits and a good salary. Grace’s track record so far is so impressive: they’re training hundreds of women a year, 75% of which have secured jobs immediately after graduation. When women enter the program, all are below the poverty line on an average annual income of about $6,000. When they graduate the average salary is just above $45,000. An impressive 90% of the jobs the women go into provide benefits, like healthcare for their families. I decided to join the board because of the real tangible effect that this small organization is having—not only on individual women’s lives, but also on entire communities. Some 85% of the graduates are women of color. Frequently they’re single mothers. Just under a third live in shelters or public housing. Grace already works with many companies as hiring partners and Grace graduates are frequently praised as extremely hard-working, smart and conscientious employees. My ask of you? If you want to learn more about Grace, or chat about how you or your company might be able to support this deeply important mission, get in touch! When we empower women, we empower everyone. And finally, a big thanks to Iva Vukina for introducing me to Grace and to Danae Mcleod for all that you and your team are doing. It's an utter privilege to be on (the) board.
