We took a look at the biggest game launches on Twitch since 2022. Any surprises on this list?
My thoughts below.
Single Player
Multiplayer games usually run the top 10, so it was interesting to see so many single player games. Longevity is always an issue that keeps them out of the top charts long term though.
Power of the Franchise
Most of the games are sequels to popular game franchises with strong IP.
New Games in the Top 5
That said all of the new titles (3 in total) were in the top 5 – including number 1 and 2.
Need to update already?
The week's not out, but Baldur's Gate 3 may be on track to make the list. Maybe we should extend it to 10 games? There's a few other titles scheduled for this year that have a good shot at making it.
The continued web3 guy confusion about how game development works is adorable as is their continued obsession with esports.
Which dovetails nicely with general game industry confusion as to how sports work and the hilarious mess that is the usual game company esports effort that tries to go beyond a tactical brand activation into any actual sports-like territory.
The conflict between high level play engaging low level players and casual viewers in sufficient numbers is a cursed problem few understand or can grapple with bc it has to do with low skill threshold high emergence systemic properties of games esports have in reverse (high skill threshold low emergence). Football doesn't need live ops while most esports wouldn't have anywhere near the reach without it.
Imagine the maximum strength stupid of talking about Ronaldo "reviewing" football, Nadal reviewing tennis or Daniel Negreanu reviewing poker. Sports are built on universal mass market games for a reason. Even the most successful esports started with a massive hit game first that was only a "sport" unofficially and not on any qualities a high level player can articulate since there's no high level yet.
Trying to develop a hit game that's successful as a sport first is like trying to suck cement through a straw. Trying to do it in Web3 on top of that is like doing it while standing on your head. On Mars.
Won't keep'em from trying though so at least I can get some entertainment out of yet another failed finance bro game. In the meantime the problem with Web3 games remains the same "true ownership" trilemma Web3 guys keep running headlong into as well as the overjustification effect.

A lot of great work went into this, including a revamped core gameplay which uniquely combines puzzle mechanics with strategy. We're introducing spells, new skills, offensive roars, obstacles and a very special reward for playing PvP. Check it out!

My goal for tonight is to finish up this project!
Here's what I got to fix!
1. Start from first question
2. make it so the colors reset after next is clicked
3. increment the score with html and if answer is correct
4. only allow user to click next if an option is clicked
Come watch me make this at Twitch.tv/KwaziiMedia!
