This February, we're choosing to honor our heroes and ruminate on the lessons they taught us all. At Sky Corral Ranch this Presidents Day, we're feeling inspired by two of the greats, John F. Kennedy and George W. Bush. Two shining examples of what it means to be a fearless leader, they inspired our nation to believe in something greater than themselves, and taught us to be brave in the face of uncertainty. As Americans in today's world, our lives are filled with things we can choose to fear. But, there's always another choice. The choice to band together with our fellow Americans and take on the challenges ahead with courage is ours for the taking. For, truly, "There is nothing to fear, but fear itself." With all the polarity in our current political landscape, we'd like to be clear. This is NOT about Republicans. This is NOT about Democrats. This post is about leadership. Being an effective leader is NOT about you. It's NOT about asking what your team can do for you, but what you can do for your team. Sound familiar? It's about others. It's about building a united team where every member feels seen, heard, and appreciated. That's what helps them believe in the vision. As a leader, you have the influence to make that happen. As for JFK and George W, it's hard to boil down their lasting legacies with just one quote from each of these great presidents, but these are the words we'd like to leave you to contemplate today. Another one ☝... When you know, you know. I first engaged with Ryan Toomey, after gathering some market intel & based on his prior experience (outside of recruitment) as well as showcasing high performing traits in rec... he was our no.1 choice. 🥇 Timing & opportunity are critical to any senior level individual considering a move... timing couldn't of been worse as he was about to get married & spend time in Italy afterwards. 🍝 Knowing all too well, happy wife = happy life, I arranged a follow up for his return and true to his word, Ryan took the call & I came prepared with the pitch! 🤑 Both hiring manager David Woodings & Ryan, shared similar ways of working, strategy on how to build a business BUT critically, Ryan wanted to get to know LHi & our good humans... this is the 💡 moment. So, No Labels is packing it in. What did we learn from this effort? (1) A third party cannot get traction by arguing about the quality of the candidates from the major parties. It takes a vitally important values-laden issue the other parties are ignoring to motivate enough people to abandon their past party loyalties (think slavery and the republican party in 1860). A third party effort needs to be issues and values based, not process-based. (2) These days, parties (or quasi-parties like No Labels) have no control. Everything is candidate-driven. No Labels needed to start with the candidate, and then get on the ballot, rather than the other way around. (3) We have a massive leadership deficit in this country. #politics #leadership #nolabels #Trump #Biden
