Co-Founder & CEO at Sway – next gen packaging made from seaweed

Hot off the press! An op-ed in The Economist celebrating the true potential of biomaterials to replace petroplastics at scale. In writing this piece, I took the opportunity to not only highlight Sway, but inspiring technologies from around the world who are also using "regenerative feedstocks" (including Woola's waste wool bubble wrap, Ponda Bio's wetland-regenerating cattail fluff, Great Wrap's waste potato peel cling film, and Ecovative - the mycelium technology company's foam). This op-ed highlights how radically collaborative efforts like the TOM FORD Plastic Innovation Accelerator powered by Lonely Whale can help bring solutions to market – and it stems from first hand experience. We owe so much of our recent successes to Lonely Whale, and specifically Emy Kane who co-authored this piece with me. Grateful, grateful, grateful. 🌊 🌾 🌿 🌳 #plasticfreejuly #swaythefuture #regenerativematerials #biomaterials

Imagine a world where new replacements for plastic – inspired by nature, and designed to regenerate – are more than materials. Their sourcing stories, traceability, and end of life support a healthier planet. They enable circularity, the way nature intended. That’s a future to strive for, and the solutions are already within reach 🌱 Together with Lonely Whale, we wrote an article for Economist Impact answering the question, "What will it take to bring new biomaterials to market and accelerate their adoption among brands & corporations?" Well done!! Love to regenerative/replenishing focus here. They are more focused on paper and textile products, but Canopy might be a suitable partner for packaging replacements (Pack4Good)...
