Cleantech for Italy 🇮🇹 Driving Italy's Green Leadership 🥇 We were thrilled today in #Roma to inaugurate Cleantech for Italy, the latest initiative supported by Breakthrough Energy and Cleantech for Europe to build the #cleantech movement across 🇪🇺 and accelerate the build out and scaling of Italian innovators. This initiative marks a critical step ⏩ forward for several reasons: 1. **Showcasing Innovation**: 💡Italy’s emerging and deployable technologies are set to create jobs - including in its exciting manufacturing base - and position the country as a leader in global cleantech supply chains. From long-duration energy storage to circular economy solutions and advanced materials, Italian innovators are at the forefront. 2. **Amplifying its Voice**: 📣the voice of cleantech investors, innovators, universities and corporates in public debates around cleantech policies, funding, and adoption is critical. A unified front will ensure the priorities and deployment opportunities are represented and addressed. 3. **Addressing Funding Gaps**: 💶 By assessing and addressing funding gaps across all stages—from early-stage equity to growth capital, debt financing, and guarantees—this initiative will ensure continuous support for scaling Italian cleantech companies. 4. **Building Industry-scale Partnerships **: 🤝 with one of the largest industrial net in Europe, matching Italian cleantech solution providers with corporates in view of bankable offtake commitments, Italy can be a front runner and move out of the “death by pilot” conundrum. 🇮🇹 has a lot to show from its past successes, such as digitization and smart meters, and expand into new investment horizons. With strengths in manufacturing, design, and engineering, Italy is ideally positioned for a green transition across sectors like energy, mobility, construction, and agriculture - to “Make in Italy” but also as a clean energy hub for Europe. Italy’s innovative spirit, industrial prowess, and its investors’ and innovators commitment to sustainability make it poised to lead in cleantech. 🙌 We look forward to collaborating with stakeholders across Italy to catalyze this transformation, unlock economic opportunities while driving the transformation to a #resilient Italy. Key takeaways from the report, which was co-authored by incoming Cleantech for Italy Director Federico Cuppoloni and MITO Technology's Investment Director Leonardo Massa: 📈 In 2023, cleantech funding in Italy, encompassing equity, debt, and grants, surged to a record €322.3 million, marking a 68.6% increase from 2022. 💶 There was a notable increase in larger, post-seed rounds in the range of €5-20 million. ⚡ The energy sector received the most funding in 2023, capturing 37.9% of the total deal value, followed by agrifood at 20.0%. ⚠️ Despite the positive trends, Italy significantly lags behind comparable European countries in venture capital cleantech investments, with only €3.8 invested per capita (compared to €43.2 in France and €38.8 in Germany). This is awesome! How could we at EIT Climate-KIC support you in this mission?

Thank you Julia Reinaud and Breakthrough Energy for your ongoing partnership and support of all the Cleantech for Europe advocacy-led initiatives. It was great to witness the enthusiasm in Rome yesterday, underlying the need for Cleantech for Italy from the local ecosystem. Now we all have to get to the hard work to catalyze change and collaboration to build the future, enabled by innovation. The only point I might add to your excellent summary would be to emphasize the wider applicability of #innovation. We need to see innovative spirt and speed from everyone - not just the start-up and scale-up companies, but from finance, from investors, bankers, insurers; from corporates and from policy-makers and regulators. This massive problem does not get solved, and the economic opportunity does not get fully realized, with anyone thinking they don't have to change/evolve too. At scale and at speed. Onwards....

Thank you so much, Julia Reinaud and team! Looking forward to supporting the growth of the Italian cleantech. Being a knowledge company, RINA is willing to help with our multidisciplinary engineering experience as well as with our #techhubs and #trainingcenters. Like the one we have developed close to Rome where we focus on #greentechsolutions. Here we are executing “Hydra”, a 100% hydrogen-fuelled pilot-plant capable of producing up to seven tonnes of different grades of steel per hour.
