𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗔𝗧𝗙 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮 Day 2 is when the Asia Television Forum and Market got really crowded - and I got to meet some old friends there and see some friends on stage as speakers! You know who you are, I’m proud of you (as you would know). If I didn’t have time to say hi, it’s because I was writing for the second day’s Show Daily! Here are my takeaways. Day 2 focused on Content, with conferences about what makes good content (and what content sells). 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘆𝘀: Audiences really like crime shows, and they’re one of the most popular genres in most countries. 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: When pitching documentaries, it’s important to highlight what access (preferably exclusive) to information you have. 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴: Not just with creating content, but everyone is struggling to find time to do the things they enjoy.  𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙂𝙤𝙙𝙛𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧: Watch it. It’s timeless. My Spotlight to Being Incomparable How? Crafting a Memorable Week and Becoming an Influential Speaker As I reflected on how I strategically plan my week. I draw parallels between my experiences in a Film and Media class at the University of Stirling and the art of becoming a memorable and influential speaker. As I sat in my Film and Media class at the University of Stirling, my lecturer posed intriguing questions about the characters in the movie we were studying. It got me thinking – what if those same characteristics were describing you and I ? My Reflections I delve into my approach to planning my week, drawing connections between experiences and the lessons learned to help position others. The Movie Analogy As I described the questions asked by the lecturer, it led me to explore the significance of understanding characters, their voices, memorability, and emotional impact in my stories. The Power of Acting Skills This transformative power of adopting the skills of an actor when it comes to public speaking, emphasizing the importance of being memorable. I quickly realised that Performance based speaking gives you recognition and influence within your industry. As speakers, we have the opportunity to embrace the characteristics of memorable characters in a movie. Imagine being the speaker whose presence lingers in the minds of the audience, leaving a lasting impact. What if, like a performance-based speaker, you became slightly famous in your industry?

Thank you to Tariq Sadiq, MSc, RCDP for highlighting a very unhelpful portrayal of careers work on the BBC website. To promote BBC Bitesize Careers, a short comedy sketch has been published featuring Barry, ‘a careers advisor who knows absolutely nothing about careers!’ giving terrible advice to young people. As a sector that works hard to ensure professionalism among those supporting young people and adults, this massively undervalues the contribution that Careers Advisers make. If anything, the video highlights the dangers of getting support from someone who isn’t a suitably qualified Careers Adviser.  As a profession, we expect anyone providing one-to-one careers guidance to be qualified to degree or master’s level, to stay up to date on the options available and to offer impartial advice that is in the best interests of the individual. While BBC Bitesize Careers has useful information and advice, it’s no replacement for a professional Careers Adviser working directly with young people, so it is deeply disappointing that the BBC uses this caricature to encourage young people to shun valuable Careers Adviser support and visit their website instead. The CDI have complained to the BBC about this unnecessary and unhelpful portrayal and I would encourage any career development professionals who feel similarly angered to let the BBC know. There is room for information sites like the BBC Bitesize Careers alongside qualified career development professionals without resorting to lazy and unhelpful gimmicks like this that harm the profession. Hello there! I attended the Discover Creative Careers Online Webinar "Online industry insight: Focus on film and television with ScreenSkills" today. I was the only student from my school to attend this meeting. The webinar featured Freya Baker-Duffin, Alia-Lauren Clain and Neka Tamana, who gave us their progression into the film and television industry and answered any queries that we had at the end in the Q&A. I was certain of my decision to enter the film and television industry but was unsure of how to. Many people said different ways they entered the industry with and it seemed like a big challenge to enter the industry. However, in the webinar, it was explained that multiple ways are possible to enter the industry and that all we need is the passion and the adamance to not be deterred by any challenges that we face. The webinar also introduced me to a new career in film and television, production accountant, which is something that I didn't know about before. Things that I took from this webinar are: - You don't need a degree to enter the film and television industry. You need to have the passion to know that you would enjoy this career pathway and the adamance to not let anything or anyone or any rejection pull you back - There are many ways to enter this career industry - Make sure you build up a network and stay up-to-date on any new updates and news Thank you to the panelists for helping us expand our understanding of this career industry.
