While not all will share this view - having experienced 'tethered' on-the-go drinks first-hand - I do think this is a great innovation! How do we progress this here in New Zealand - any plans Coca-Cola South Pacific? NZ wide kerbside rules have prohibited caps and lids going into home recycling since February unless they are tethered - so we have the public policy framing/driver for it... At the moment though (unless my info is out of date - perhaps The Packaging Forum can correct me?) we seem to be heading towards an industry take-back solution for caps and lids. While take-back solutions if transparent and done well are great and can play an important role in supplementing kerbside etc I am not convinced it's the right route in this instance...

This invention, as detailed in U.S. Patent No. 2,223,328 (https://lnkd.in/gDgC8MsR), was designed to make vending machines "substantially foolproof in operation." Any vending machine lacking this level of foolproofing has likely drawn the pity of Mr. T! 💪 🥇 The mechanism employed a coin-controlled coupling to engage a manually actuated crank with a shaft, enabling the dispensing of Coke bottles with ease. But, wait... there's more! The mechanism also had various controls to reject incorrect coins, a cushioned crank movement for noise reduction, and even a feature to prevent coin entry when the machine was empty. This invention not only simplified the vending process but also set a new standard for reliability and efficiency in the industry. Mountain Dew was green with envy over this invention!
