I am a year older today and I am thrilled to announce that I will be embarking on a new academic journey at the University of Warwick - Warwick Business School, pursuing an MSc degree in Business and Finance. A decade ago, I proudly graduated from Covenant University with first-class honors in Business Administration. Shortly after, the prospect of pursuing a master's degree presented itself, but I found myself at a crossroads. The default choice for many was an MBA, yet I felt it might be too similar to my undergraduate studies, leaving me pondering its true value. The thought of crafting a personal statement as part of the admissions process was daunting, to say the least. Ultimately, I chose to enter the workforce and take on professional exams, believing that practical experience and self-improvement were my top priorities. I considered the professional realm as my mentor, my sensei, on this transformative journey. Over seven years, I diligently worked and completed the exams required to become a Chartered Accountant, while also commencing the Certified Financial Analyst program. Looking back, I can confidently say that I made the right decision. Through my career, I acquired invaluable skills, cultivated essential relationships, and developed into a more refined version of myself. Armed with these experiences and newfound wisdom, I have decided to return to academia and pursue a master's program in Business and Finance at the prestigious University of Warwick - Warwick Business School. My choice is rooted in several key factors: · Academic Pursuits: I opted for a Master of Science degree because it provides the opportunity to delve into academia, should I choose to explore the path of teaching in the future. · Dual Expertise: With a background in both Business and Finance, I deliberately selected a program that marries both fields. As I stepped off the plane onto British soil, I was filled with a mix of excitement and nervousness. My journey to pursue a master's degree in accounting and finance had begun. The bustling city of London welcomed me with open arms, its rich history and vibrant culture inspiring me from the very beginning. The first few months were a whirlwind of adjusting to a new academic environment, making friends from around the world, and immersing myself in rigorous coursework. I was amazed by the diversity of perspectives in my classes, which enriched every discussion and pushed me to think beyond my comfort zone. As the semesters progressed, I encountered challenges that tested my resilience and determination. Complex financial theories and intricate accounting practices often left me grappling for understanding. Late nights in the library and study groups became my allies as I worked tirelessly to conquer these hurdles. In my final semester, I chose to focus on a research project that examined the current trends, perspectives, and market analysis of digital currencies. The topic resonated deeply with me, and I dedicated countless hours to researching, analyzing data, and formulating compelling arguments. Presenting my findings to both peers and faculty was a proud moment, as it highlighted the impact I could make through my studies. Completing my master's in accounting and finance was not just a culmination of coursework; it marked a transformative journey that had shaped me into a more knowledgeable, confident, and determined individual. The academic challenges, cultural experiences, and networking opportunities had expanded my horizons and set me on a path of continued growth. What do Bayes MSc students go onto to do after graduating? Last night it was great to meet over 100 of recently graduated alumni of our MSc in Finance and MSc in Management programmes. They were all really excited to see their class mates again and to meet and network with alums from other years. They also looked forward to meeting their careers advisors, course officers as well as the faculty who taught them. They had all gone on to do really interesting things. I spoke with alums doing investor relations with a big asset manager, running clean energy projects with a large professional service firm, working on M&As for one of the big 4, launching a start up in digital recruiting, working for major strategy consulting firms and much more. We had some fascinating conversations: Are commercial real estate portfolios over-valued? How to drive change in family businesses? What financing models are appropriate for green transitions? They all told me the skills they gained during their time at Bayes gave them the edge in their firms and markets. They had great analytical and technical skills, could work with others very well and were known for the ability to get things done. I'm sure they will go on to develop from being great professionals into leaders in their firms and eventually transform their industry.

A quarter of MBA graduates from Tuck routinely begin careers in the elite world of finance; we sat down with three who recently made the journey from the Upper Valley to Wall Street. Franco Coria T'21: "Trust the process and enjoy it. Tuck has amazing professors who are always willing to help, it has the best career advisors (well-known and super connected across the Street), and it has a one-of-a-kind network that you can and should tap into early on." Barbara Demidchuk T'22: "Reaching net zero by 2050 and making sure that happens in a sustainable and just way will require a large reallocation of capital and the development of innovative solutions. I wanted to be involved in these major shifts by enabling companies to both grow and adapt their business models through diverse financing solutions and strategies." Chibuzor (Buzz) Ogwugwuam T'23: "Even with a busy schedule, I manage to catch up regularly with classmates who’ve settled [in New York] or are just visiting. And I make a point to hit the soccer field every other weekend with a buddy and former soccer co-captain from Tuck. While it has been a significant life change, the relationships that took root in the relative tranquility of Hanover endure in the big city."
