Looking for funds for your movie or TV productions? Brands have always been involved in the making of a movie or TV show. But it starts to have a new, better quality. If you go back to the origin of film making or TV show production, you will quickly come to learn that is was always about selling something. Even so simple than selling you an idea or mission. Nowadays - as finding funding becomes so difficult - you might want to turn to brands and look for a creative discussion with them. Putting some branded products on the set is easy, but telling a compelling story around a brand imagine requires more than that. Here is where you truly can shine and use the creativity of your team. You must be willing to partner with this brand deeply and positively. Shine a light on a topic that resonates with the brand and its target customers. Tell a great story - but do not sell. That is art. The way products are being sold changes anyways. The format of advertising and how, for example, TV channels work with brands around this is shifting. Some TV broadcasters that I know speak now more about brand partnership and relationship marketing rather than ad sales. Brands are involved in the ideation process of a show and the whole production details: from set design to dialogues. The sales pitch to the consumer itself might then happen via delicately placed overlay ads or even in some totally different media outlets. We love all the characters we represent, but it's true that some of them are real divas! 💅 Some of the fictional stars in our roster are huge names in the entertainment industry and pop culture, and with great fame come great creative restrictions at times. These characters are in very high demand and are more selective in terms the opportunities and brands they choose to work with. Brands that aspire to get their film on Netflix might do well to see "Sue Bird: In the Clutch," a documentary on the WNBA star. The film was buzzed-about at Sundance, but not for the reasons you might think. It was backed by Nike's production arm Waffle Iron Entertainment, which has been in business with HBO and Apple TV +, and now, Netflix. Many brand films still look like ads, but the success of films like "In the Clutch" could nudge more to make films that carry no traditional branding. Stop faking diversity in advertising Ever since I did my first casting, the client always wanted to get an ethnic diverse group of characters for the spot. Now I always had mixed feelings about judging an actor by the colour of their skin or background, but that's besides the point. My biggest problem was: My diverse commercials are -without exception- also the most artificial ones. I've been at many shootings ever since and whenever we had to cast a diverse group of people, the group of "friends" wasn't really a group of friends. It was calculated goodwill by the client. And I guess this reflected on the whole spot. One time during a shoot someone mentioned we casted the Spice Girls. Here's an alternative: go for authenticity. Cast people who are actually friends in real life no matter which skin colour they are. Do street castings. And be careful with casting models, go for people who have learned to be an actor and to play authentic characters (usually they come from theatre). One of my best commercials is about an extra telling about how he got more famous because of the great image quality of Telenet (see commercial below). It's actually a real extra. The only actor in the commercial, Roel Vanderstukken, actually plays himself. All people are cacasian, but that's just how it was. All people are real. Authentic. And it got me my first Cannes Lion. In a time where all brands are diverse and inclusive, the only way to go a step further is to get real. And maybe then we find out reality is diverse enough and we don't have to fake it. #diversity #diversityandinclusion #creativity #advertising #commercial

Digiday: “I don’t see that any cinema ad firms are going to get investors super excited, as long as you have reduce theatergoing and strikes,” said Ross Benes, a senior analyst with Insider Intelligence. “I don’t think Q4 is going to be as robust in theaters as it would have been otherwise. So there are just tough macroeconomic things with theater-going that makes it difficult for them.
