Adressing teenage pregnancies. Adolescent pregnancy remains a major contributor to maternal and child mortality. Complications relating to pregnancy and childbirth are the leading cause of death for girls aged 15-19 globally. Pregnant girls also face other health risks and complications due to their immature bodies. This number however greatly increases in countries where abortion is prohibited or highly restricted. A staggering 3.9 million unsafe abortions occur each year to girls aged 15-19yrs ( Plan International). What we can do. End poverty. Keep girls in school and give them a future that is more attractive than early parenthood. Adress socio-cultural norms that enable teenage pregnancies. Call on governments to strengthen national health systems and to implement comprehensive education on sexuality and relationships in and out of schools. Make contraceptives available to young girls who have become sexualy active. Support young mothers in continuing with their education. #EndGBV #Day12ofactivismagainstGBV

Adolescent pregnancy has emerged as a major contributor to maternal and child mortality. Complications related to pregnancy and childbirth have become the leading cause of death for girls aged 15-19 worldwide. Additionally, due to their immature bodies, pregnant girls and adolescents face other health risks and complications. The babies born to younger mothers are also at a greater risk of facing health issues. It is also important to note that for many adolescents, pregnancy and childbirth are unplanned and unwanted. In countries where abortion is prohibited or highly restricted, teenagers typically resort to unsafe abortion, putting their health and lives at risk. Developing regions record up to 3.9 million unsafe abortions each year, with most of them affecting girls aged 15-19. Apart from health issues, adolescent pregnancy can also have negative social and economic effects on girls, their families, and communities. Unmarried pregnant teenagers may face stigma or rejection by parents and peers, as well as threats of violence. What's more, girls who become pregnant before age 18 are more likely to experience violence within a marriage or partnership #effectofteenpregnancy #teenagepregnancy #youarenotalone #empowerment #teenmotherempowerment #sdgs #maternalandchildhealth

Stigma, language barriers and lack of comprehensive #SexEd in schools hinder access to contraceptives, especially among marginalized communities. To address this, PAI partner Observatorio de mortalidad materna in Mexico (OMM) launched a digital campaign designed by and for Indigenous youth. Using posts, videos and podcasts, the campaign covers topics like adolescent pregnancy and contraceptive methods, as well as access to health services and the right to care. Understanding child abortion involves recognizing the complex and deeply personal nature of the decision to terminate a pregnancy. Abortion can occur for various reasons, including medical concerns, socio-economic challenges, or personal circumstances. It is a topic that intersects with ethical, legal, and emotional dimensions, often sparking significant debate. The implications of abortion, particularly when it involves younger individuals, extend beyond the immediate physical effects, potentially influencing mental health, future fertility, and societal attitudes. Addressing the issue requires sensitivity, informed decision-making, and access to appropriate support and healthcare resources. #ChildAbortion #ReproductiveRights #ProChoice #ProLife #AbortionAwareness #WomensHealth #ReproductiveHealth #AbortionDebate #HealthcareRights #ChildRights #FamilyPlanning #ReproductiveJustice #MentalHealth #MedicalEthics #SocialIssues

Teenage pregnancy remains a pressing global issue with far-reaching consequences for both teen parents and their children. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 12 million girls aged 15 to 19 and nearly 777,000 girls under 15 give birth each year. This issue is not confined to a specific region or socioeconomic background; it transcends borders and affects communities worldwide. The challenges posed by early parenthood can disrupt educational attainment, hinder career prospects, and perpetuate cycles of poverty. Teenage pregnancy is a multifaceted issue that demands comprehensive strategies and collaborative efforts. By promoting education, access to reproductive health services, and empowering teenagers, they can fulfill their potential and create a better world for themselves. Through our SRHR and Tolerance Inclusion Project (SATIP), we are working to combat teenage pregnancy by equipping teenagers with the knowledge they need to make informed choices and build a brighter future for themselves. Extreme heat is a reproductive justice issue: Exposure to high temperatures, including in early stages of pregnancy, are associated with premature birth and stillbirth. https://bit.ly/3w0eaKr Because of historic racist policies and ongoing discrimination, communities where people from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds and low wealth reside are more likely to be hotter. This exposes them to higher temperatures that put health at risk. https://bit.ly/4auEjQG What can you do? Here are some tips to stay cool in the summer: https://bit.ly/3xzwRVU

In this study, Council staff, Nicole Haberland, Population Council - Kenya's Beth Kangwana, and colleagues Christina Misunas, & Erica Soler-Hampejsek research the impacts of school attendance and friendships on the likelihood of pregnancy. Their results found that attending school, an additional year of schooling, and higher levels of numeracy decrease girls' probability of pregnancy. Their study suggests that the benefits of #education are an asset for girls even after leaving school. Many women who don't want to think about their birth control on a daily basis choose an option that is long-acting yet reversible. Examples include intrauterine devices (IUDs) or hormonal arm implants, which can be inserted by a health care provider and provide birth control for several years. Signature Health's sexual and reproductive health providers and educators work with patients to understand their contraceptive needs and preferences. To speak with a provider about long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) and other options, make an appointment by calling (440) 352-0608, or (for teenagers) stop in at one of our walk-in teen clinics. https://lnkd.in/g9NTm_qy #birthcontrol #birthcontrolaccess #sexualandreproductivehealth

Domestic violence and reproductive health are strongly linked, with violence increasing women’s risk for unplanned pregnancies, and unplanned pregnancies increasing women’s risk for violence. 40% of pregnant women who have been abused report that their pregnancy was unintended, compared to just 8% of non-abused women.
