The cost to employers is steep. #Childcare shortages contribute to increased absenteeism, tardiness, reduced productivity, turnover — and talent scarcity when parents make the economic decision to leave the workforce. What's the #1 thing missing in caregiving from #earlychildhoodeducation to #seniorcare? WAGES! It's not that we have too few people who want to work in supporting children, families, seniors. It's that these employees can't afford to stay in these professions. With unsustainable wages, these workers move on, forcing the system to hire the next batch of temporary workers that we continue to pay at a low wage. The result? As workers leave the system, facilities close and raise prices, ultimately depressing our economy as families can't find the support they need or are forced to turn to a desperate search for gig workers in a everyone-for-themselves market. Employees who are paid enough to stay in those jobs build expertise, and improve the quality of caregiving. The provide a steady flow of reliable qualified work. Not to mention the incredibly important care, support and education that they provide daily. But where do funds come from? Demographic population growth shows we need something larger to addresses needs at both ends of age spectrum. We need #policy and #innovativesolutions to de-risk caregiving. The 1/2 day stuff screws working parents up and really does not work under the cover of meeting instruction days. It is quality vs. quantity.
