After participating in 31 contests, I'm thrilled to percentage that I've turn out to be a Pupil at Codeforces! 🎉 This success is a testament to the tough work, dedication, and non-stop studying over the last few months. Competitive programming has taught me precious lessons about trouble-fixing, perseverance, and the importance of non-stop development. Each contest has been a unique studying experience, pushing me to think creatively and increase green solutions beneath stress. Folks, all these layoffs isn't just a rebound, its a shift. With Internet of Things, Social Media, a higher literacy rate than ever and Chat GPT, coding is now a literacy (just as computers replaced writing), the very outcome the former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, former President Barack Obama and other notable figures advocated and made policies to promote 10-15 years ago. We are in a #newera of #economicdevelopment. Coding, now a literacy will be embedded in most jobs, and tech is now a required management competency for any organization that long term that plans to stick around. It's no surprise that computer science has overtaken engineering as the most common degree background of CEO's. HR professionals, if you thought data was bad, now you need to learn coding too. Fortunately, there is one distinctive way to learn that works well for non-technical professionals, hackathons (where you can work with other people together and learn). 🌟 Introducing Yourself to Potential Teammates 🌟 In our last post, we discussed how to find teammates for hackathons. Now, let’s talk about how to introduce yourself effectively, whether you're at an in-person or hybrid/virtual hackathon. Introducing yourself in the proper way is very crucial. In my experience, I’ve seen many people give just a one-line intro, leaving us with little knowledge about them or their skills; this makes it harder to find like-minded teammates. Here's an introduction template that you can use, regardless of in-person or hybrid/virtual hackathon 🗣️ Template: "Hi, I'm [Your Name]. I'm a [Your Role, e.g., full stack developer, designer, project manager, etc.] with experience in [Key Skills, e.g., Python, UX design]. I'm really excited about this hackathon because [Reason, e.g., I'm passionate about AI and machine learning, I want to learn new things, etc]. I'm looking to team up with people who are interested in [Specific Area or Goal, e.g., developing innovative healthcare solutions]." Note: If its a virtual hackathon, be sure to include your time zone in your introduction as well, so teammates can coordinate effectively. When introducing yourself, keep it concise and highlight your key skills and goals. This will effectively set the stage for successful collaborations. 2️⃣ 0️⃣ 2️⃣ 3️⃣ was the most challenging year I've had since entering the workforce (at 14 years old!) I learned near the end of 2022 my role was being cut from Galvanzie for reasons I cannot understand. I thought "How could someone so dedicated and true to the mission, be cut off so easily?" I also led and founded Galvanize Military ERG, the first and only chartered ERG in the company, something I hold near me to this day. Fast forward after months of interviews and a successful job offer, I was then severed from Tech Elevator due to their utter lack of financial responsibility. I should add, many of the leaders from those two companies are still there today, which is very unfortunate. Almost one year later, I thought I found light at the end of the tunnel when I enrolled at Codeup Nov 2023. I was finally going to get back into software programming, and I was SO ready for it! Then we learned in the beginning of December, Codeup's CEO resigned and Codeup will be going out of business. It was a shock to many, and something I knew all too well from my 2 previous employers. Just wait... this doesn't end here. Last week Codeup abruptly decided to immediately cease operations and cancel ALL classes. WOW. I sit in disbelief, confusion, and a little bit of humor. Some power greater than me keeps testing my limits. Testing to see how I will break through this chain of unfortunate events. There's one thing I do know, I will not let this break me. I will be successful in what I do, there's no other option. So I say all of that to say, bring it on 2️⃣ 0️⃣ 2️⃣ 4️⃣.
