We find technical people who solve business problems ◆ Transparent Search ◆ Transparent Teams ◆ We are Vocative

I'm interested in David Cameron's return to government. I recognise the thought process. But my goodness, I don't want to talk about the politics. Every week I have conversations that go something along the lines of, "We have a red hot problem. We absolutely don't have the capability in house. But something else has happened over here that means I can shift things about a bit - and we're going to need to bring in an external person to help us". Of course I do - that's literally what I do for a living. And yesterday's reshuffle absolutely screams that type of thinking. Foreign policy right at this moment is a nightmare. The global situation is deeply precarious. I can absolutely see why Sunak wants a heavyweight in there. He obviously doesn't think there is anyone in his parliamentary party with the chops to handle it. And yet he likes Cleverly...and so he's taken the opportunity presented to him. Now you might think that Sunak is incompetent. Or the best Prime Minister ever. You might think appointing Cameron is a disgrace, or a stroke of genius. You can think whatever you like about the politics because I am in no position to tell you whether you are right or wrong. Appointing Foreign Secretaries is not my gig (thank goodness). But the principle of identifying someone from outside the organisation with relevant experience, and getting them in to help, even if they've previously been a critic - that I recognise. *ducks for cover* Vocative #politics #business #hiring

Justin Sleep would a new CEO hire an ex-CEO of the company to come and work under him?

No political commentary here, I promise! But yesterday, I was thinking along the same lines. I see this as a strategic hire. It indicates that Sunak couldn't find the expertise he needed internally, so he brought in someone with the right skills, experience, and global influence. The idea of seeking external talent to bring in specific skills and expertise makes good business sense. The concepts of *understanding* your organisation, *prioritising* your needs, and *Improving* your organisation are universally applicable, whether in business or government.

Not sure the appointment is about domestic politics, my sense is that this is about international politics, and the parlous state of diplomatic relations between 'the west' and its geopolitical rivals (you know who they are). Just my guess for the little it's worth!

To me it feels like the Tories are constantly testing how quickly the general public forgets. This is Mr. We'll-do-a-referendum, people!

I want to comment yet realise that anything I say will clearly reveal my politics. Even that probably.

Justin Sleep I too will avoid commenting on the politics, but I support the principle of looking outside the organisation for help. I posted on this recently.

It does smack of bringing in a short-term consultant to me. That obviously has many benefits in the business world. I'm less certain what it means in politics.
