Building my one-person business to $10M in revenue and sharing everything I learn along the way.

I can't stop thinking about this painful statistic: 85% of workers worldwide are either: - Unhappy - Completely disengaged This is from a recent Gallup poll. That's bonkers. 85% of people spending half their waking hours doing something they don't like. I hope the: - Free education on YouTube - Rapid rise of AI and automation - Distribution available on social media ...Can help some of these folks start to build something of their own. We've never had this many resources. It's never been more possible. It's never been cheaper. Want to start? Start by building your personal brand in front of 900M+ people here on LinkedIn. Here's my playbook from 2K to 600K+ followers: https://lnkd.in/eQsfk8CT Good luck out there. Let's shift those numbers.

Justin Welsh your post took me back to a similar experience I had a few years ago. I was working on what I thought was a breakthrough project, pouring everything I had into it, only to have it fall flat. The disappointment was crushing, and like you, I couldn’t stop replaying it in my mind. But looking back, that failure taught me more than any success ever could. It forced me to rethink my approach, get back to basics, and really understand what I was doing wrong. It wasn’t easy, but it was what pushed me to grow in ways I never expected. Sometimes, the most painful experiences are the ones that push us to evolve and become better at what we do. Yes, it’s damn tough in the moment, but I believe those setbacks can set the stage for our greatest comebacks. 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱, 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲.

To me learning something new outside my comfort zone is the most satisfying... In the beginning it might be very painful which one might not love...but the satisfaction one gets after it is very good. The key is How we put our time to use .. social media/ Netflix might be time killer... Anyone disagrees with me ?

I didn’t bite to look at the link about the playbook but my thoughts are that reasons it may not be working for someone trying to build a business, especially alone, is that the person hasn’t really 100% committed to leave the safety of something else behind. I see it a lot. You have a job but dream of something more or different which is a start but you keep hanging on to the safety of current situation. I’m not saying the jump is easy but this is why so many side hustles fail. I know because I’ve been there too. I’ve thrown money and time at opportunities many times trying to break away. I’ve owned my own business as a sole source of income supporting a young family. Stressing and worrying many times on how I could feed everyone for the week or pay the rent or keep the lights on, working around the clock but I was “all in”. It had to work. When I sold out and joined the corporate world, I’ve dreamed of finding another gig for myself but the money and stability of how things are now, quite frankly, impede me from jumping again. Playing around in the “in between” wasteland is a recipe for failure. My opinion.

I couldn't agree more. The challenge I face is that I'm keenly aware of the tools and resources that are available but find it difficult to take advantage of them. As a solopreneur finding the time to work on the business, in the business and educate myself is the tallest peak I've tried to climb. I've tried: * Time Blocking * Pomodoro Timer * Day allocation * Weekend prep I've made improvements but I still end every week with "I wish I could have gotten to..."

If you are unhappy with your current state and want to change that here are some tips to follow - 1. Work 2-3 hours per day on your dream project. Increase the time gradually. 2. Build a strong financial backup so that leaving the current job won't hurt you for at least 3 years. 3. Create regular clients and other backup businesses. 4. Build a team for faster growth. 5. Go all-out, no time to look back.

So very true! Let me go one step further and give something you can do—use AI to help you get unstuck from unhappiness and disengagement. Here is a simple AI prompt you can use: “You are the worlds best <career/life/business> coach, counselor, and therapist. I am <tell something about yourself>. I love to <talk about things you love>. And I’m unhappy about <type things you are unhappy about>. I feel so disengaged from <life/work/whatever else>. I need you to help me get unstuck from this situation. Can you engage me by asking the right questions to help me get some clarity about my next steps?” This is a very simple prompt that will work even if you haven’t used any AI tool in the past. Just open ChatGPT and type this and replace the <> with something specific about your situation. Like Justin says, the easiest thing to do would be to use technology to your benefit. I’m not saying it should be AI, but it’s definitely better than browsing aimlessly for hours on social media. Thanks for bringing this important topic up, Justin!

It's always the context that gives meaning to anything in life. The same applies to work-life. What's missing is the context of purpose and meaning for our work.

That statistic shows how much people fear trying something and what a bad job education has done at preparing people to do meaningful work
