If I were to start up in India, today, it would definitely be in Pune. Just came back from a trip and here’s the breakdown. Airport to kharadi took 20 mins at inr 200. Baner to kharadi too 60 mins at inr 450. Had some work in a government “Haveli”. Took an entire day, but it was done without commissions. Most legal Documents were in Marathi and a preferred other language- so no additional charges for translations, agents, what have you. The weather was great. And did I mention about the talent pool? The talent pool is buzzing, young faces, aspiration to the moon. If I were to stratup in india, Pune has to be top of my list. An excellent mix of cost of living (and operations) vs talent pool vs access to government infrastructure. I wouldn’t be surprised if more companies called Pune their home in the coming 5 years.
