Today is a big day for Intel’s history books! Under the CHIPS and Science Act, Intel will receive $8.5 billion in direct funding from the U.S. Department of Commerce. This will help the team deliver on our plans to invest more than $100 billion in the U.S. over five years to expand chipmaking capacity and capabilities. This is actually a major announcement by Intel Corporation, but not just about more #chip capacity. The addition of an #Advanced #Packaging capability, especially one located in the US, is critical to the future of #SOCs. Intel's leading edge #Foveros #3D #packaging technology is now coming online in full production capacity. Packaging often gets less visibility (and press) than the latest #process #node, but its critical to continue the pace of Moore's Law. With #Chiplets becoming a critical component of future products, having a domestic source for leading edge packaging, versus mostly being done in the Far East, is important for #supplychain management. This will give Intel Corporation a critical advantage in both producing its own #processors, as well as for its #Intel #Foundry #Services (#IFS).
