Spent the last 3 days playing Legos with my industry friends! Coming of a fast paced 2 day bootcamp with the LeanProject team in St Paul re-learning the basics of implementing Last Planner System and their 3Px approach to organizing projects for success. Would love to hear from my network what are your best practices with the Last Planner System? Who keeps it old school with Post Its and Excel WWPs, what software tools have helped you out or other best practices. If you haven't worked with Klaus Lemke, Ryan Ring or Jason Klous I highly recommend giving the team a shout. Their approach to teaching this system has some very simple simulations that can get even the most stubborn individuals to have a lightbulb moment on how they can better organize their teams, foster open communication and deliver exceptional projects.

Our CM Jason Allen did one of these and had good things to say as well. In my experiences I’ve had successes and failures with implementing LPS in general, and my biggest takeaway has been to have flexibility as each project is (obviously) different so certain parts will be more effective than others for effective management of the work. The buy-in from the Project Team is always the hardest and first part with something new/unfamiliar, so I can’t stress the importance of that step enough as well.

My best practice is to remember it’s all about conversations and interactions with people, not just checking boxes or logging data. And also, involving LeanProject and playing with Lego’s as much as possible. Can’t lose with that combo!

Thanks Karl, and thanks for a great couple days. We love bringing new thinking to the industry.
