What could be more brat than starting a non-profit because you lost an election? In the words of Charlie XCX, “You’re just like that girl who is a little messy and likes to party and maybe says some dumb things sometimes. Who feels herself but maybe also has a breakdown. But kind of like, parties through it, is very honest, very blunt. A little bit volatile. Like, does dumb things. But it’s brat. You’re brat. That’s brat.” Iykyk. Starting a non-profit as high school students is one of the most brat things we’ve done. Emerging in this field can be messy, and there are many obstacles that we face each and every day. There are fees. Forms. Legalities. It’s the exact opposite of clean. But we party through it. We party through it because our mission, centered on creating pathways for intersectional growth in sustainability, equity, and education, is one that can change the lives of the future generation. I am glad to be a participant in today's Day 3 of onThejob internship and Apprenticeship Program at RAD5 Tech Hub, sponsored by Google.org. This program is under the instrumentality of Abia state ministry of digital economy and SMEs. The aim of this program is to enlighten young people about the Tech world and how they can be fully be involved in it. Our present world lies in the hands of people who can identify and create solutions to different problems in the society. And it is the work of an Entrepreneur to identify and create business ideas which will be solutions to problems in our society. Who then can be an entrepreneur? Anyone. You can be an entrepreneur if you can identify and create business ideas, create solutions to different problems and scale through in the business industry. But you can't just wake up being one. You need to learn the steps to follow inorder to create business ideas, and factors to consider while creating one. And today in onThejob internship and Apprenticeship Program we were taught steps by steps on how to come up with business ideas, factors to consider before creating a business idea and how to scale through in the business industry. Happy National Nonprofit Day! My first corporate job was at a nonprofit organization. Some of the most life and career changing positions I’ve held have been at nonprofits. I’ve worked for small local ones (yes, I have a former boss who is a nun. Habit and all!). I have also worked for international nonprofits. We get comfortable calling them “organizations” but many people forget nonprofits are actual corporations and subject to many similar, if not the same, federal and state regulations governing the work of corporate bodies in this country. Although they vary from local youth sports clubs to human rights advocacy, their goals are, by law, philanthropic in nature; meaning the goal is not profit but progress. Nonetheless, nonprofits are crucial entities in our communities; conducting important business that can often be a matter of life and death for just one family, or even a major shift in the justice system that impacts all of us . Let go of the image of people walking about in comfy hoodies, tees and shorts, or flip flops, with the founder being a little old cat lady with mailing lists piled in her desk. (Shout out to the fabulous Cat Ladies out there!) To be honest, I’ve worked at nonprofits with stricter dress codes than some for-profits or firms. I know when I was managing one myself, I made it a key part of our brand to always present ourselves professionally, on and off-site Some of the best lessons I’ve learned as a professional took place at nonprofit organizations and I’m proud so say that nonprofit operation and management is one of my areas of expertise. Starting at midnight, April 3rd, 2024, SPU launches our largest annual fundraising campaign with the addition of a donor incentive competition structure. The Center for Career and Calling (CCC) needs your help to reach our goal of $2,000 to support our student-centered services and programming designed to help our students prepare for their transition to the working world. If you, or someone you know, are willing to donate I urge you to review these donor challenge guidelines below to help increase the impact of your donation. This year there are many ways to play, so here is the insider scoop on the Donor Challenges. There are three main challenges that help SPU departments and programs, participating in Giving Day, get bonus rewards when you donate. 1. First and last donation of the day challenge: --- The department or program that receives the first and/or last donation of the day will receive an additional $100. ---- The first donation after the event commences at 12am PST tonight, April 3rd, 2024, will receive an additional $100 bonus. ---- The last donation of the day has to be received before the event closes at 11:59 PM PST, April 3rd, 2024 to receive the additional $100 bonus. 2. Top 3 most donors challenge: ---The top three programs or departments that receive the highest number of donors [not necessarily the most money] will win an extra: ---- $1,500 for 1st place ---- $1,000 for 2nd place ---- $500 for 3rd place 3. 10+ donor challenge: --- When our department reached 10 donors, it will unlock an additional $100. In 2024 I made a pledge to myself to make a difference. ⭐ I'm determined to work towards that in a way that will impact more than just the industry I work in, so I am super excited to be supporting Apprentice Decent Wage Pledge and helping them in their mission to campaign for better, fairer more balanced wages for apprentices now and in the future. 🖤 I've chosen to support Apprentice Decent Wage Pledge and #BackTheFuture to make apprenticeships inclusive not exclusive. ⚖️ Whether through lower socio-economic backgrounds, or having a family or dependents to support, mid-career career-changers or not living locally to where an apprenticeship is based meaning increasing costs related to relocation and the uncertainty that can bring, just about anyone can be impacted by low apprenticeship wages. So I'm not only asking the games industry folk in my network to listen up, I'm asking employers of all sectors, particularly those running apprenticeship programs, but also those thinking of running programs to be part of the change.
