Yes, I job hopped a lot. . . I know it looks bad. And yes, not doing my homework before joining a company came back to haunt me. Now everyone is texting me "You have job hopped a lot you did not even served anywhere for 2 years?" I know! I am the one dealing with it. Who wants to join a company just to leave after 6 or 7 months? No one. Starting over with interviews and onboarding is exhausting. I want to stay stable with a company and grow together. But past experiences forced me to change jobs more often than I wanted to. Here is my story-- Fresh out of college I was eager and enthusiastic ready to take on the world. I jumped at the first few opportunities without thinking much about long term fit or company culture. Big mistake! Some places were not the right fit, some promises were not kept, and sometimes circumstances just were not in my favor. But I have learned. I have grown. Now I dig deeper, I ask more questions and I look for the signs of a good match before making a move. It is not about settling, it is about finding a place where both I and the company can thrive together. To everyone in the same boat please remember its okay to take your time and find the right fit. Learn from your past but do not let it define your future we are all on our own unique journeys. And to those texting me that I have ruined my career by job hopping please stay kind. Why them? Why not me? 😥 The new year's stream of 'I'm happy to announce I'm starting in a new role' can be pretty tough if you're not in a great place career-wise. I've worked with some very successful people over the years who managed to get into super exciting positions. I found that luck rarely got them to where they were. 🍀 👉 In fact, these are six aspects people who are successful in their careers have in common: ✴ Thinking long-term: having far-reaching career goals beyond the next promotion and understanding what it takes to reach them. ✴ Constantly explore new opportunities in the market, new ways of doing your job, new companies, etc. ✴ Keeping up to date with trends in their industry: staying relevant and interesting for key players in the industry ✴ Persistence: following and connecting with their dream companies continuously and through several different ways without a hidden agenda ✴ Doing things that don't generate instant monetary rewards: going to (or speaking at) in-person events, volunteering, helping others (e.g. mentoring) ✴ Personal brand: they decide what exactly they want to be known for and what their strengths are and develop them further. 😓 Maybe it sounds like a lot of work, but one thing is universally true about today's job market: you must stand out.
