🌈 Under Threat: LGBTQ+ Rights Right Now Over 500 bills targeting LGBTQ+ rights were proposed in 2023, leading to devastating consequences for transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) communities. It's time for the philanthropic sector to act with precision and strategy to support intersectional movement building and protect democracy, equity, and health. As we approach the 2024 presidential elections, there is a growing fear that these attacks will only intensify. This is a critical moment for the philanthropic sector to act with precision and strategy. We must invest in intersectional movement building and support initiatives that promote democracy, reproductive justice, racial equity, climate change, and health. Our movements have the knowledge and experience to win and build a world where everyone is safe, well, and free. In my small sphere, I fully realize my impact is small, but wherever possible, I try to at least amplify voices and causes about which I care. Attacks against women's and/or LGBTQ+ rights are, at their core, attacks against humanity itself. And it is an unfortunate reality today that these attacks are far too prevalent and, in far too many places, growing. During the Fiscal Year 2025 Budget Address earlier today, @govmurphy acknowledged that securing everyone's fundamental rights — from #immigrant families to members of the #LGBTQ+ community — are just as necessary for economic success as creating jobs and growing New Jersey's GDP. He went on to announce investments in the protection of voting rights, securing houses of worship, and the allocation of $50 million to protect reproductive freedom for those who can get pregnant. A government, led by a man from the minority community, ethnically speaking, but also representing a minority of the ultra-wealthy hedge fund managers who prioritize their own interests above all else. This administration has consistently demonstrated in recent months that they hold increasingly hostile attitudes towards the LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender and vulnerable populations. If #Suella's pre-election rhetoric wasn't concerning enough, now we're faced with another alarming development: the #UK government is prohibiting #transgender women from accessing female wards in hospitals. If we want true #genderequality and a safe environment for all genders and expressions, it's clear that the #Conservatives need to go! At Inatai Foundation, we understand the critical role public resources like libraries play in our communities. Unfortunately, when libraries are threatened, it's often those furthest from justice who are punished: people of color, LGBTQ+ communities, and those with limited income. In Columbia County, Proposition 2 threatened to shut down the county’s only library, all because a few disagreed with its collection of books on gender, sexuality, and race. Neighbors United for Progress stepped up to fight for their community and won. We are proud to have supported Neighbors United for Progress and celebrate the legal victory. We know it won’t be the last fight against homegrown and out-of-state forces that target overburdened communities by infiltrating elected bodies, spreading disinformation, and oppressing those committed to racial justice and equity. We don't need to be seasoned activists to work together and make a difference in protecting the rights of the #LGBTQ community. The surge of anti-trans legislation nationwide is testing the core of America. Over 500 anti-trans bills have been introduced this year, and 85 have passed. The Alliance has called on all Realtor® Political Action Committees (RPACs) to utilize our proposed “Article 10 Rule” and refrain from endorsing and funding elected officials and candidates who openly engage in discriminatory behavior against the LGBTQ+ community even if they are deemed “pro-housing.” The Alliance has unveiled a new tool that tracks RPACs and their support of those who are openly discriminatory against the LGBTQ+ community. Over the last six years, which covers all the most recent elections, RPACs around the nation have combined to award approximately $3.3 million to those who have taken the lead in anti-LGBTQ+ political activity. RPACs have also funded 322 politicians who have sponsored anti-LGBTQ+ bills already in 2024 led by Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Missouri RPACs funded legislators in these states have, respectively, introduced 46, 29, and 25, anti-LGBTQ+ bills this year alone. https://lnkd.in/e5BsgBpc
