I Made It! As far as I can remember, I have always wanted to achieve excellence, especially in academics and other aspects of life that interest me. As a child, I was focused and barely distracted by anything. However, life happened, and we lost my dad in my teen years. This altered everything! Life changed, and I struggled through school. One thing that has not changed is that inner fire, that zeal to be outstanding. I enrolled in my MBA program with Nexford University 10 years after my first degree, and I am excited to have completed it with a 4.0 GPA. Success is relative they say, but this is my success story. As a career lady, wife, mom, and student, managing all roles and striking a balance was challenging. It is not for the faint-hearted indeed. Meeting up with school assignments and project deadlines, tight work schedules, and attending to family needs, all took a toll on me. I cried on many occasions, lost interest in the program, and even contemplated dropping out, but I am glad I didn't give up. God helped me through it! My experience with NXU has exposed me to a tremendous wealth of knowledge in areas like Data Science, AI, Leadership and Organizational Design, Financial Decision Making, Technology Operations Management, Marketing Strategy, etc which I am ready to explore. Combining my core competencies in Human Resources with my Master of Business Administration, I am certain I will do great in a suitable leadership position. Shout out to my family, friends, colleagues, and co-learners, who inspired and encouraged me. I am grateful.

In 2020, an invitation to join the Beta Gamma Sigma International business honor society felt surreal, considering my non-business background. I embarked on a dual MPH & MBA with a foundation in clinical medicine. ⇥ The only equation I had heard 👂 about business was ✔️ Assets = Liability + Equity 😁 My MBA experience was a steep learning curve at The Johns Hopkins University - Carey Business School. Subjects like accounting and microeconomics were intimidating. ✔️ It necessitated double, sometimes triple, the effort to understand these concepts I made significant trade-offs including spending less time on public health courses to dedicate more time to mastering business concepts. ——————————— Why this history 😒 ❓ ——————————— → My experience underscored a profound lesson. ↓ ✅ True potential is often discovered when we venture beyond our comfort zones. Despite the challenges My commitment to learning and adapting demonstrated that ✅ Excellence is not exclusively the domain of the naturally gifted but is accessible to anyone who approaches their goals with determination and persistence. This is a terrific video from Eddie Asbie, Executive Director of Admissions for the Two-Year MBA at Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management. It conveys the importance of being authentic in the application process and this line, in particular, caught my attention: "We want you to acknowledge any weaknesses to improve yourself both personally and professionally." I think we often think we need to present our 'perfect' selves to gain admission to a top business school like #Cornell #Johnson. It's such a competitive process that it makes sense to feel that way. But the thing is that the MBA is an opportunity for transformational growth and if you don't have anything to work on, one could argue, why do you need the MBA? It's totally fine to acknowledge your weaknesses, in addition to your strengths, and provide a strong argument on *how* the program can help. Think of business school as an "academic" gym and show self-awareness of what you want/need to work on. 😊 The final application deadline for this admissions cycle is April 10.

Experiencing all four seasons at Duke's beautiful campus during my first year of the MBA journey has been a visual delight and a metaphor for my personal growth journey and that of my classmates. Joining a cohort of 400+ high-achieving, intelligent individuals has been both inspiring and challenging, pushing us to re-evaluate and grow in unexpected ways. 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 1: 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 – 𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 We arrived with starry eyes and high hopes, driven by ambition and excitement for what lies ahead. The energy and positivity were palpable. 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 2: 𝗙𝗮𝗹𝗹 – 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀 Recruiting pressure kicked in alongside intense coursework. As someone with a non-traditional background and a decade-long study gap, this period was challenging. The support from my C-Lead, peers, and second-year students (SYs) was invaluable and I successfully navigated these challenges. 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 3: 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 – 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 Winter brought the toughest challenges. The rigors of the recruiting season resulted in multiple rejections and moments of hopelessness. This humbling experience taught us resilience. 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 4: 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 – 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 Spring brought a sense of renewal. The tough winter gave way to new opportunities and growth, symbolizing the transformative power of perseverance. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀: 1. 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻-𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: Interacting with people from various cultural backgrounds and nationalities helped me discover new facets of myself, fostering personal growth. 2. 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗶𝘃𝗼𝘁: Plans B, C, or D... often prove more effective than Plan A. Learning to fail forward and bounce back quickly is crucial. 3. 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Scheduling even the smallest activities, including time with friends and family, has been essential in balancing the demands of business school. 4. 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗤𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁: Competition is fierce, but Fuqua's emphasis on Decency Quotient (DQ) sets us apart and strengthens our Team Fuqua spirit. 5. 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲: Building a support system within the cohort is crucial. The unexpected support and camaraderie I've experienced reaffirmed my choice of business school. My first year at Duke University - The Fuqua School of Business has been transformative, both personally and professionally. These experiences and learnings have not only prepared me for the business world but have also shaped me into a more resilient and empathetic individual.
