LAYOFFS AND DISCOURAGEMENT It's been a year and I'm discouraged. I've done the right things. I've written a beautiful CV and have networked my ass off. And, I have little to show for it. I've been runner up too many times to count and I've had offers rescinded because of budget cuts. I've been ghosted, ignored and stabbed in the back. I've heard hundreds of empty promises and have had charlatans trying to take advantage of my altruism and good heart. My tank is low. I don't want to keep grinding and doing the yeoman's work of job hunting only to be rejected time and time again. All I want is to hear a, "Yes" I persist because I have to and don't have any other option. My story is no different than yours and while the specifics vary, too many of us are living in the same feedback loop of disappointment, discouragement and despair. We can put on the positive front and a good face, but damn, is it tiring and soul sucking. It gets old and is certainly boring. I share my experience and volunteer coaching and mentoring hours to other job candidates because it's the right thing to do. It gives me great satisfaction to help someone find a new job. Some say thank you. Most don't. My daughter said something last week that stopped me dead in my tracks. She said, "Dad, you're like a shaman or medicine man to thousands of job seekers around the world. But, who you get to turn to for help and advice?" It's a good question, and one I can't answer. All I can answer is that we're on our own journeys during these turbulent times with an uncertain and unknown destination somewhere in the future. One step in front of the other is all we can do and have faith that it will all work out in the end. Maybe. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AS MUCH AS I BELIEVE IN YOU! #LINKEDINKEITH

I feel for you. I think while many people at more junior levels imagine senior level folks in transition are sitting on their net worth on a beach counting their dividend gains, it is actually HARDER to be in transition at a senior level---because roles are fewer, the process is longer, and going from being a high impact performer to living in a world where little is in your control is very painful.

I can relate. It's been 15 months, and I've certainly reached my breaking point. I have no more hope or faith that anything good will come out of it.

I had an interview last week and they said to give them a few weeks to get through the rest of the interviews and then the recruiter would contact me. I thanked them and said I looked forward to the contact because I've been ghosted more than once and it's extremely discouraging. I questioned myself afterwards whether I should have said that or not but I think companies need to know their non-action has consequences for those of us struggling to find employment and to keep our heads above water.
