🌍🌱The development and adoption of seaweed-based bioplastics represent an exciting frontier in sustainable packaging. As technology advances and more research is conducted, we can expect to see increased use of these materials in various industries, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future. 💡One notable example of seaweed-based bioplastics in action is Kelpy, a female-led seaweed start-up featured in a compelling piece from The Fish Site. Kelpy operates as a bioprocessing start-up and has achieved significant success in developing resins for both flexible and rigid plastic replacement products. #successstory A clean, low-energy production line has been implemented, strategically bypassing the necessity for expensive, multi-staged processing. This approach places emphasis on prioritizing waste stream seaweeds and emerging lower quality varieties, deliberately avoiding any competition with seaweeds earmarked for food and high-grade products. 🌐 Drawing inspiration from Kelpy's approach, we can underscore the pivotal role of strategically sourcing and implementing scale-up strategies. Going global, by selectively opt for with seaweeds that are abundant, ethically, and sustainably sourced.
