The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) declared April 18th as World Heritage Day in 1984. After 40 years, the aim of this day remains unchanged: to celebrate the shared past and heritage of humanity and to preserve the imprints of diverse cultures. However, our built heritage is constantly threatened by the passage of time, ideologies, and wars, which is why it is important to constantly draw attention to the monuments and sites of special value and to the importance of their protection. The principles of monument conservation formulated in the Venice Charter are still considered relevant today. The Hungarian philosopher Ádám Lovász noted the following: "The building is the physical imprint of humanity's ability to create civilization. Despite being physical, the building - at least one worthy of being called a 'monument' - is a tangible and perceptible imprint of the spirit. Therefore, it is our social duty to preserve the remnants of the past.” #WorldHeritageDay #internationalday #monuments #sites
