A U Turn from a red light!? Yes, as long as you can complete your turn without entering the intersection, you’re good to go. As shown in the video, some medians stop short before the intersection giving you a bit of room to start your turn. Keep in mind that the intersection starts at an imaginary line drawn from curb to curb at the edge of the road you’re approaching, not where the lines are on the ground (this is really important for the red light cameras, but that’s another post). This weird law may confuse visitors to our area that may come for the WM Open, Spring Training, or are snowbirds that don’t understand why someone might be pulling out at a red light. Please keep it in mind if you’re approaching an intersection (especially motorcyclists) and cars are waiting in the left turn lane! This video is for informational purposes only and is not intended to be legal advice. Double check traffic laws (use the Google) before attempting any such maneuver.

Teaching someone how to fight is undeniably one of the most impactful things one can do. When a student entrusts his time to your classes, consciously or not, he is also entrusting you with his own life, or even more importantly, the lives of his family. This should hold significant meaning for any responsible instructor, correct? However, despite understanding the immense importance of this responsibility, many professionals resort to teaching solely through the repetition of their own learning experiences, which often falls short of optimal. To assist instructors in improving their interactions with their students, I have compiled these 9 tips that I consider paramount for truly transforming your students’ lives. LEO’s, During your field training, what is a piece of uncommon advice that you received starting out. Or what’s something outside the box that you would share now. Non-LEO, What’s a piece of advice that you would give a Police Officer starting their career in the current climate? What something you would really want a Police Officer to HEAR?

One of my classroom practices involves play-based learning activities focused on road safety. Through role play, students explore and learn vocabulary related to road safety, including terms such as zebra crossing, traffic lights, colors, footpath, signals, and community helpers like traffic police officers. Additionally, they become familiar with safety items such as seatbelts, helmets, and basic vehicle maintenance concepts like checking petrol levels, ensuring proper air in tires, and understanding the function of the steering wheel. By immersing themselves in these interactive activities, students not only acquire essential safety knowledge but also develop practical life skills in a playful and engaging manner."
