Introducing ‘The Spirit of the Place’…   Roughly translated from the architectural concept of the “Genius Loci,” the Spirit of the Place is where architecture looks not only at a building itself, but at how buildings can preserve and celebrate the culture, history and spirit of our towns and cities.   But how can we balance preserving the past with building for the future?   To answer this question, we collaborated with leading architects to explore how we can embrace innovative and sustainable solutions whilst also celebrating a place’s Genius Loci. Let's be honest: most architects (and many clients) love a straight line, a clean shape, and minimal detailing. The enduring appeal of modernism in architecture ebbs and flows, but was at its zenith from 1930-1960s. Whether Frank Lloyd Wright or Le Corbusier, there's a clarity in the belief of 'form follows function'. This scheme in follows many of the modernism design principles, making the most of views in and out, and its relationship with the existing trees and new pond.
