Important distinctions in a graphene-hype saturated marketplace!

Very pleased to share that our latest publication, "Synthesis of Clean Hydrogen Gas from Waste Plastic at Zero Net Cost", has been selected as Editor's Choice in Advanced Materials, and is free to read for the public! The work, highlighted by the Scientific American and C&EN Magazine, upcycles waste plastic into clean hydrogen and valuable graphene with comparable yields to steam methane reforming (dirty, grey hydrogen) while producing 84% less greenhouse gases. https://lnkd.in/gK8ddBtB

I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Chemist at SLB! Formerly known as Schlumberger, I’m so excited to be working in both the traditional Oil and Gas sector, as well as the company’s exciting New Energy initiative.

Our latest work, published in Advanced Materials, demonstrates complex hybrid carbon nanomaterials can be made from mixed waste plastics. These materials outperform traditional graphene or carbon nanotubes in composite application, and require 85-90% less energy to synthesize than traditional carbon nanotubes and graphene! #graphene #upcycling #plasticrecycling #nanomaterials

I never know what to expect when I tell people I study graphene – some have never heard of it, while others have seen some of the hype-laden headlines and inevitably ask, “So what’s the holdup?” I was happy to write a short article for The Conversation Media Group on graphene, including the challenges and promises of the material. Scientific communication and public scientific literacy is essential in modern societies, and something I am very passionate about.
