A few days back, I had the opportunity to attend the Climate Justice Camp, as a part of ‘People for Climate’ organized by Greenpeace, which focused on activism, leadership, and climate campaigning.  Cheers to a full day of exploring activism, understanding true leadership, and, my favourite part; building effective relationships. What do we want?! CLIMATE JUSTICE When do want it ?! NOW This is the decade of action…. Climate Action. Responsibility ,Collaboration and appropriate decisions goes a long way to sustain ourselves and the planet. This, in a nutshell, my learning’s from the Climate Justice camp organised by Greenpeace. Extremely grateful to meet fellow climate advocates and share ideas and collaborate on policy and process discussions. For this Future Leaders Spotlight, we’d like you to meet ‘23 Aspen Future Leader Maya Bhalla-Ladd, M.P.S.! 🌟 Maya is a Marine Biologist with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a Master of Professional Science in Marine Sciences from the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science. At the Rosentiel School, Maya investigated international marine ecosystem management in collaboration with local communities to create informed actionable science and policy. Maya is most proud of her collaborative efforts across interdisciplinary sectors to tackle interlinked climate challenges for our environment and the communities that rely on it. The complex nature of the climate crisis requires creative problem-solving and co-production across sectors. Her advice for others looking to become leaders is to be a perpetual student! Use your existing network to expand your professional prowess in the climate world to build your expertise across fields. Don’t let a professional connection fall by the wayside! Follow up with new connections with a thank you message or a lingering question to showcase your appreciation and interest in learning more about their focal area. Most professionals in the climate world prioritize collaboration because we recognize that the climate crisis spans across specialties and that we need to gather all the expertise possible to meet this challenge. Maya’s leadership style is a blend of a coaching leader and a servant leader because of her people-first leadership style. She strives to set a positive example as a collaborator by encouraging others to showcase their strengths and identify areas for development throughout the team. Maya believes that shame and negativity are not productive motivators.
