Today is World Drowning Prevention Day; a crucial time to highlight the importance of water safety🌊 Some useful tips to prevent drowning: 📌 Learn swimming and water safety skills - Swimming is an important life skill. If possible, ensure that everyone in your family knows how to swim, and understands basic water safety. 📌 Use the buddy system - Try not to swim alone. Always swim with a buddy, whether in a pool, lake or ocean. 📌 Wear life jackets - Use life jackets, especially in open water for inexperienced swimmers. May is National Water Safety Month - a time dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of water safety and drowning prevention. Did you know drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death among children ages 1 to 14? While water activities can be a fun way to spend time with loved ones, it can also be dangerous if proper precautions are not taken. We have compiled a list of tips to keep you and your family safe around water! TIP #1 from lifeguard Jim: "Never swim alone and make sure there is a lifeguard on duty." When children are swimming, make sure they are actively supervised at all times. Teach your children that they should only swim in locations where a lifeguard is on duty, or where a responsible adult agrees to watch the children in the water without distractions. Today is World Drowning Prevention Day. Drowning is sudden, abrupt and shocking, with people often not realising it's happening until it's too late. With the right awareness and actions, bad situations can be changed quickly and for the better. Anyone can drown, no one should. Follow the #WHO's advice: 1) Learn to Swim Equip yourself and your kids with swimming skills. 2) Supervise Children Always keep a close eye on kids near water. Never leave children unattended, even for a moment. 3) No Alcohol Near Water Avoid drinking alcohol when supervising kids around water. Stay sharp and vigilant. 4) Be Aware of Surroundings Always check weather and water conditions before swimming.
