Today’s video is NOT a movie trailer for the summer blockbuster X-men movie that starts today and it is NOT a demonstration of Wolverines adamantium claws but it is a great example of Proto-1’s Cross Hatch Knurling capabilities of the SRM-336 machine. The SRM-336 machine is a 19 ton horizontal tube end forming beast that is a reforming press for tubes and pipes up to 3 inches (76.2mm) in diameter. This type of diamond shaped knurling serves to improve grip, facilitate assembly, and enhance the appearance of objects like handles, knobs, and tool handgrips. There is a decorative aspect of this type of knurling and it provides a visual guide for people by signaling “hold here" on various handles. This amazing machine can also resize tubes and make different shapes along the entire length of the tube along with scoring and pressing capabilities. Correction: Hole was .375” thru 32”, I used a 18” drill and drilled 16.250” from both sides of the part meeting in the middle. I first drilled and reamed 3” to “help” guide the drill in hopes it would help prevent any walking. Dimension was .375” +/-.005”, I was able to get a .374” gage pin to drop thru the fill 32” and a .377” to start on each end.
