Key Takeaways: 🔹 Product Teams & Ops Work: Product teams are now spending 30%-50% of their time on “ops” work. Whether driven by cost savings or a build-it-you-run-it approach, the increased operational overhead is taking time away from actually writing code. 🔹 Cognitive Load: With SRE team reductions/distribution, cognitive load on developers is too high. Solutions that boost developer efficiency are crucial. Stanza’s approach to providing “Reliability as a Library” for product teams resonated with this crowd. When Dan Hully told me our FinOps Team spend half a day every week on L&D, I thought he was mad. Why were we not maximising our team’s availability? Our team spend half a day each week talking through the challenges they’ve come across & sharing best-in-class tips/advice. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely value L&D time and think it’s important to ensure job satisfaction - making sure you’re consistently learning and being challenged... But half a day a week across our team could open up a lot of availability for existing and future partners. However, I’ve now had multiple conversations where this feature of RORA’s model is highly praised. Yes they’ve got someone great in their company, but they also have access to the wider RORA Team. When you consider our team have collectively worked across >180 startups/scaleups, there’s a lot of value in this. Keen to hear how other company’s are prioritising L&D?

Today, I want to express my gratitude for my first job at Quickbase, where I spent an incredible 5 years. I started as a nervy, eager-to-please software engineering co-op and grew into a self-assured senior software engineer. Reflecting on my time at Quickbase, there are a few key lessons I learned: 1. Don’t be afraid to ask questions you think are dumb. We all have our strengths and weaknesses, and we are all constantly learning. 2. Fearlessly dive into problems you know little about. Learning to problem solve is more important than the specific problem itself. The more you do it, the better you get at it, and it builds confidence. 3. Find a superstar engineer to be your mentor. I was lucky to have Drew Ditto who had a true passion for mentorship and took me under their wing. Having an example to emulate is priceless. It’s not easy to say goodbye to a company full of supportive, bright-minded individuals. I am eternally grateful for the strong foundation Quickbase helped me build for my professional career. Next week, I start a new chapter and I look forward to bringing the same enthusiasm and inquisitiveness that I did 5 years ago.

Today is day 5 of my journey at Ramp! I've been following Ramp ever since my time at Stripe and it's been incredible to see the company's explosive growth. A couple of quick takeaways: 1. Every day counts - Ramp writes the days that the company has been in existence at the front of presentations to put things into perspective. What have we done in the last 30 days and how can we ensure the next 30 days get us closer to our goals? 2. Customers love the product - And it's by design, the product and engineering teams are laser focused on what customers care about and collaborate with different teams to deeply understand each persona. 3. Incredible talent - The folks I've spoken to so far embody a rare combination of ownership, curiosity, and humility. The energy at the New York office is contagious and I look forward to learning more in the coming weeks.

🌟 Just wrapped up my first time at FinOpsX, and I'm incredibly impressed! 🌟 Fantastic first experience at FinOpsX! For me, it all starts with the right size. It was not too big, so no one felt overwhelmed. People felt comfortable interacting with each other in a very relaxing atmosphere. On the other hand, FinOpsX was big enough to allow everyone to meet lots of interesting people. And the interesting people made this so special! People in different stages of their FinOps journey give you a great perspective on where the market is. From start to finish, the event was incredibly well-organized. Everything ran smoothly, I especially enjoyed the fact that all the events were close to each other and very easy to attend. A huge shoutout to J.R. Storment and the entire team at FinOps Foundation, the guys behind FinOpsX for putting on such a valuable event. The walk-in sessions approach is a great fit. The "shake as many hands as you can" spirit is a great way to build relations within the community. The sessions were interesting and I have two very cool takeaways: 1. The 7.68% billing error rate from the Uber session. 2. The way Wix treats a FinOps anomaly the same way they treat a production event. It's such a pleasure to be part of this growing community. The collaboration and knowledge sharing are truly inspiring. I'm already looking forward to connecting with everyone again at FinOpsX next year. #FinOpsX #Networking #Community #Learning #EventRecap
