After the Civil War ended, the enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, received word they were liberated by Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. This day was June 19th, 1865. Every year since 1866, Juneteenth has been celebrated as a commemoration of the end of slavery in the US. In observance of this significant holiday, our Kids In Distress (KID) and Family Central, Inc. offices will be closed.
